Current Employee - Occupational Therapist in Austin, TX

I have been working at South Austin Hospital full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The other therapists are really helpful and kind

    Cons

Pay is seriously lacking - you can make ~10k more/year at the other trauma hospital in the city. Revolving door of therapists as a result.

I worked at South Austin Hospital full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

They seem to care about their employees. Benefits are very good.

    Cons

Always short staffed, continually asked to work overtime, had to stay late because there was no relief at times. Pay and raises are not the best.

I have been working at South Austin Hospital full-time

    Pros

    - coworkers enjoyable to work with (generally) - intensivists on site - lots of sick patients

    Cons

    - HCA facility, so CREAM, baby - Leadership rolls out new initiatives without asking bedside staff, or without checking what the rest of HCA is doing

I worked at South Austin Hospital full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Extremely hard to get fired since help is needed so bad -Learning curve is big because you get to do so much -Work as many hours as you want, overtime is easy to get -Meet a lot of good nurses, mostly travelers -Biggest St. David's Hospital and is expanding, many choices of floors to work on

    Cons

-Dangerous clientele, too many psych patients with no where to go -True definition of community hospital -Pay for new techs is super low, can make more at HEB being a checker -Staffing is better at night than during the day -Hospital feels old -Morale is very low for nurses and techs due to pay, type of patients -New staff only want to stay for a year or two because they signed on for bonus not because they like it -Bedside shift report and rounding logs are two of the three biggest things management cares about, which is a joke for techs. -Pretty common for techs to take on the whole floor, 22+ patients -More codes for violence behavior than all the other St. David's combined -Little to no raises -Cafeteria is closed from 7pm to 7am leaving no food options for night shift
