I worked at South Austin Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

South Austin Hospital really appreciates it's employees. The management in the Radiology Department goes out of it's way to recognize and reward employees. Radiology Management is always there to talk to, and honestly cares about its employees. If there is ever a concern brought to the Radiology Management's table, they address it immediately; and are ALWAYS in their employees' corner when it comes to inter-departmental conflict.

    Cons

Unfortunately, St. David's does not pay their employees fair wages when compared to other metropolitan cites in TX. The sharp increase in the cost of living in Austin over the past 5 years has not been taken into account and the pay has not reflected the cost of living increase. In fact, raises each year barely even cover natural inflation.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, very supportive and make it an enjoyable place to work.

I worked at South Austin Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Physicians, Most NNPs and most staff are nice. There just aren't many pros to the place to be honest. More cons than pros.

    Cons

Nursery RNs in charge of the NICU. Bullying is allowed and manager will always side with the bully. Nursery RNs caring for NICU infants. Unsafe nursing practices encouraged by manager. Always running out of supplies for patient care.

    Advice to Management

Get up to date on current NICU practices. Put qualified nurses in charge. Have true NICU RNs staffing the NICU. Supply your staff with equipment and proper supplies to care safely for patients.

I have been working at South Austin Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Trauma Experience, fast paced, great group of people, team oriented, you get to help people at their worst and see them progress to their best

    Cons

Over worked, short staffed, low pay, it's hard to advance and the politics are terrible here with upper management, low pay raises and only yearly based on reviews

I worked at South Austin Hospital (More than a year)

    Pros

You will not be on call often, but you can ask and the House Supervisor will try to accommodate. I liked the eMAR system (ease of use, and so on). Great camaraderie amongst staff, very supportive of each other. Security has your back!

    Cons

Income-driven hospital, which means you have to be customer-service focused in a way that ultimately considers cost/ratings as the main factor.

    Advice to Management

Continue to promote work-life balance for staff, and to support the staff.

I worked at South Austin Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I really liked my schedule and the pay was decent also had some opportunity for some overtime which was nice. Also, they were phasing this out at the time but there was also shift differential which was a good incentive. Health benefits and 401k were great.

    Cons

Phasing out of shift differential I don't really have anything negative to say. I truly enjoyed where and with whom I worked with. Moved out of state was the reason I had to part from the position.

    Pros

Good location, nice facility, fun part of town, good leadership, fun culture. Good learning experience. You get what you put in, there is lots of opportunity to learn new things if you want to.

    Cons

Very low pay, very long hours, staffing issues and reduction in benefits each year. As an employee, you feel like all that matters to the hospital is the bottom dollar.

    Advice to Management

Turnover is extremely high. Salaries, benefits and staffing issues need to be addressed before you can stop the bleeding.
