I have been working at South Bend Community School part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Love the flexibility of the job and I have been able to get through my busy schedule. I am able to seek help and there has been great professional development that is available to all employees. Great pay rate as well.

    Cons

There is not a lot of communication top down Sometimes plans are a bit unclear and scheduling of meetings and professional development changes one day after another.

I worked at South Bend Community School part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The only good part about this job was that I had to call in to find work. If I needed to stay home with my kids I just didn't call in.

    Cons

Very few teachers were friendly or helpful. It seemed that the retired teachers got the first choice in subbing jobs. Since I'm not a retired teacher I got the leftovers. Some of the classes I got put in were terrible. I also was scheduled to sub in one room and switched at the last minute to another room. With the promise I would be switched back later that morning. This was a lie. I overheard them say that they had no intention of putting me back in the first classroom.

I worked at South Bend Community School (More than a year)

    Pros

Great hours and you can choose which days and schools you work.

    Cons

Lots of difficulty getting paid! The process for submitting substitute pay is terrible. I was shorted a day or more on every paycheck! Wax unable to get help from the sub office to figure out what day/school I had not been paid for. It was a nightmare and the reason I stopped subbing. The students and other teachers were wonderful!!

I worked at South Bend Community School full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It has a very diverse student body that are enthusiastic about the school.

    Cons

Administratively, the corporation spends it's time fighting fires, messes that they've created, rather than having overarching strategies that the execute consistently. More times than not they do not act in the students better interests, especially the general population, but the play favorites toward their elite IB program population.

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, ability to get a permanent position

    Cons

You have to wake up at 5am and call the system before it calls someone else. Too many subs too little work. Last minute call offs

I have been working at South Bend Community School (Less than a year)

    Pros

LaSalle intermediate is a great place to sub. As well as McKinley primary center

    Cons

Tough schools. Sub pay the least in this area.

    Advice to Management

Model the discipline and student management, after LaSalle Intermediate. Their kids are all well behaved. It's a pleasure to work at a scho that shows respect for substitutes.
