I have been working at South Carolina Department of Revenue full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Tuition reimbursement is a plus. The hours are great (Mon-Fri 8:30am-5:00pm).

    Cons

Management has too many expectations. The pay isn't decent. Management very nit picky. 7 minutes to get to and from the restroom or else you'll lose your 15 minute breaks for the day. The restroom is not close to our department. Forced to work alternate schedule if you're late by 3 to 5 minutes.

    Advice to Management

Stop being so nit picky and value your employees and they'll stop quitting.

I have been working at South Carolina Department of Revenue full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits. Above average health and life insurance. Good retirement. Great hours to work (only have to work 37.5 hrs/wk to be full time). Flex on time. Can get reimbursed for continuing education.

    Cons

Some management micro manage while others work very well with their employees. Toss up of what type you get when you hire on. Benefits make it worth the ok to poor supervisors. Also have ability to apply and move up in ranks as you get experience.
Most job require a 4 year college degree, but starting salary does not reflect this. Need to evaluate what the worker does or has to do to complete their daily work and pay accordingly.
I'm currently in a position that requires the same type of experience and education of a position that has a starting salary of $5,000/yr more than mine. Please reconsider some of these unequallies.

    Advice to Management

Need to try and treat all workers the same. The hard workers tend to get lump in the same category as the poor to bad workers. Pay attention to who's worker and who's not and give the good workers a better(much better) evaluation and raise.
This is really the only complaint I have. All in all, typical governement job with typical state wages; but the benefits really help to want to keep your job.

I worked at South Carolina Department of Revenue full-time

    Pros

Stable 9-5 work. Never work on holidays.

    Cons

Confined to a cubicle all day. Bad heating/AC in the building. Many employees wear winter coats/blankets inside. Long time employees tend not to be up to speed with technology. Everyone is on a career path that leads to management, so the most unlikely (or unpleasant) people become managers. Great place to work if you just want a job where you go in, do your work quietly, keep a tight lip and clock out. It's a rather odd little community.

    Pros

Good vacation leave and sick leave

    Cons

It's a very click'ish' work enviroment. Management treats full time employees unfairly. Favoritism is given to contractual employees. No raises. Bonus are given to a select few. The "good 'ole Boy" system is alive and well in this agency.

    Advice to Management

Get with the 21'st century. Be fair with training and pay.

I have been working at South Carolina Department of Revenue full-time

    Pros

State job that offers Annual Leave and Sick Leave (paid) time off..13 paid holidays

    Cons

Insurance and retirement rate goes up every year leaving employees to work second jobs to make ends meet. Opportunity for promotions is slim to none.No room to grow and once you are disliked by management you can hang it up for advancement.Too much politics being used

    Pros

Great place to work. Very friendly people. Hours are reasonable. Once you leave he office, your work doesn't come home with you.

    Cons

Very large office (Columbia office) with endless cubicles. Can sometimes feel like another number in the system. Turnover rate seems to be high
