I worked at South County Hospital part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lovely professionals throughout the hosptial. Very clean and bright hospital, lots of parking. Everyone in my department (HIM) was professional, yet friendly, helpful, and outgoing. I so much enjoyed interacting with all of them every day!

    Cons

The pay rate was somewhat lower than other hospitals or clinics I have worked, no matter how good you are.

    Advice to Management

Please make more FULL TIME OR PART TIME SCHEDULED jobs available. For most of us, having a per diem job is impossible, or prn. I have found several jobs that I am fully qualified for, but without a permanent position and regular schedule, I will not apply.

I worked at South County Hospital full-time

    Pros

Clean, bright and easy to get to. Newer employees are all very pleasant for the most part.

    Cons

Low pay, horrible management who seem to make up rules as they go and dont hold everyone on the same ground, for example one employee can be 15min late everyday while another is fired over 3 minutes.... nothing is transparent and evrything is very secretive here, cliques within staff are abundant

    Advice to Management

Transparency would be good and managers beed to ve held accountable for their favoritism. A union would be nice here

    Pros

Location, front door greeters, LDR nurses

    Cons

High school mentality, bullying, if you don't "fit in", they will make you leave. Never suggest anything other than what the ortho docs want, you will be black listed. Never seen so many unnecessary procedures...... Dirty, lowest pay in Rhode Island. Constant cancelling for low census.

    Advice to Management

Get an actual degree in management. Or better yet, take an ethics class.

I worked at South County Hospital part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Clean bright facilities. Great hard working nurses who take pride in all they do... when they get the chance to do it.

    Cons

Terrible pay and very limited benefits. Management plays favorites and holds grudges.Very "small-town" mentality, full of gossip and unprofessional decision making. Cannot ever count on getting your scheduled hours due to very low census and weekly cancellations.

    Advice to Management

Grow up. Stop hiring new employees until you can guarantee your present employees a full week's hours.

I worked at South County Hospital full-time

    Pros

The doctors were great, professional and treated the nurses well. Located in a nice area, truly a community hospital. People in other departments seemed very happy and loyal to the facility. Pay was competitive.

    Cons

Management needs to learn how to listen to employees. Huge amount of favoritism in my department(OR), some people got away with murder while others caught grief for no good reason. If you weren't liked by someone who had management's ear, then it didn't matter how good of a job you did, you were toast. Shifts were canceled on staff last minute, some lived more than 30 minutes away and this was a great inconvenience. For these reasons, and the fact that often you didn't get meal breaks, I think they need a union.

    Advice to Management

This isn't high school anymore. Stop letting bullies do your grunt work for you, listen to your employees. A little human decency and respect go a long way in winning the loyalty of your staff. Stop canceling staff last minute.
