I worked at South Dakota State (More than a year)

    Pros

South Dakota State University has a great community and offers great experience for students while they are still attending college.

    Cons

The only down side is that students are only allowed to work so many hours and they are not enough for students who have bills to pay. There for the students have to sometimes have second jobs while being a full time student.

I worked at South Dakota State part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Tuition waiver.
It is a great experience if your interests are similar to the research subjects

    Cons

It depends on what kind of professors you are working with. It seems like there are some good professors but in my case, it was horrible because my professor required me to work more than in the contract. In the contract, I was only required to work for 10 hours a week but the professor always wanted me to work a lot more than that. And the department could not help me in any way.

    Advice to Management

The school needs to protect students a little bit more. They are vulnerable because in order to keep their financial benefits, they must follow whatever the professor asks and sometimes the professor asks too much.

They need to be more organized, there is a disconnect with what they want and reality.
