I worked at South Seattle Community College part-time

    Pros

I am an adjunct faculty for a few years. I really get to do what I love - connect with my students and co-workers. A lot of passionate faculty on this campus, and I received a lot of help from everyone. They have a nice childcare facility that is never crowded. You can take classes there for very very cheap as a staff/faculty. Parking is easy to find compare to other campuses.

    Cons

The dean, associate deans, VP, president, along with their office assistants, did not care about the students nor the faculty. They say they'd care only because they want their promotions and their jobs. They will ignore any emails and avoid you at all costs unless it is about something that is against you. And they will use any money to pay for themselves first before considering how to use those money to help faculty and students. They would actually make decisions that lead to fewer students enrollment and satisfaction.

    Advice to Management

If this is a private company, I don't think anyone from the administration can survive that long. Unfortunately, their bosses are not the students but the board so it makes sense they care more about their bosses rather than the faculty and students.

I worked at South Seattle Community College part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Some people very friendly, understanding and able to help you with your job if you do not understand

    Cons

Supervisor and some Deans are very racially motivate to try and get rid of you by picking on certain race groups

    Advice to Management

Need to go to diversity training especially the HR and people of power.

I have been working at South Seattle Community College part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Some co-workers and dean's was really high on letting the employees think about new ways to do things and never held you back or micro manage you

    Cons

The department that I was in did not treat people with respect, courtesy, would sometime use racial comments and nothing would be done about it. Would pick on the person of color just to see how far they could push her to make her quit. They talk about diversity but never practice the definition of what it means.

    Advice to Management

Get training for diversity for supervisors, dean's and presidents of the college. Also, get a HR person who is not there to protect the college. List to what the employees are telling you about the problems that they are having and the departments and not just believe management

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at South Seattle Community College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The community on the campus is fantastic and the people are great to work with. Instructors have course development power and opportunities to create new courses as well.

    Cons

Like other colleges around the US, budget cuts has hit this campus hard and they are now replacing full time work with part time workers, faculty to staff.

    Advice to Management

Offer the slightest bit of job security to keep employees interested.
