I worked at Southeast Missouri Hospital part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

As a clinical site/employer the only person who helped me was Robin L., Tony and Kim in Radiology and before that I had many great nurses to work with in the nursing department. I enjoyed my time in the nursing setting but Radiology was too cliquish for me. Great benefits. Raises are minimal to none. Pay scale is ok but not the best.

    Cons

The Radiology department needs an overhaul. The students coming through there to learn are not getting the best experience because if you don't fit into their clique then you're out of luck. They talk nice to your face but then as soon as you leave the room they all talk down on you no matter how hard you work. The job process beyond being a student is awful. You could have 5 people and only one of them be beyond qualified and they'll still pick the worst one of 5. If you bust your hump to be an awesome employee and then some you'll still get nothing in return. As for the nursing department they are all pretty good not many issues there. The only thing that happened to me was that during a floor to floor transfer they gave the job to an outsider who had much less experience than me because they wanted to keep me on my current floor due to high turnover.

    Advice to Management

Hire on experience and not who you think you'll want to have a beer with outside of work.

    Pros

    Paid time off. Retirement plan.

    Cons

Gets rid of all employees who have worked there long enough to make higher wages and earn higher amount of paid time off. Very few long term employees remain.

    Advice to Management

    Appreciate experience.

I worked at Southeast Missouri Hospital full-time

    Pros

Co-workers pull together and help one another. Plenty of hours to work.

    Cons

Harsh management. Boss very hard to please and disrepectful. Always low on supplies. Having to go to other departments for supplies. Frequently getting pulled to other floors. Not valued as employee. No lunches, few breaks. Managers at meetings most of the day.

    Advice to Management

    Be better to workers

    Pros

Great co-workers, all work as a team. Great Doctors. Does occasionally go by seniority.

    Cons

Not all Nurses are treated the same. Some are favored more than others when it comes to shift assignments.

    Advice to Management

Treat all your employees with respect and high favor and they will be willing to give that 100%.

I worked at Southeast Missouri Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Offered several benefits like student loan repayment and relocation as well as sign on bonus.

    Cons

Completely disconnected medical staff. In this case the reward is not worth the risk. Steer clear. No investment in retaining quality people. Political games abound. Unwilling or unable to change with the times. There is a reason this hospital is always looking for staff. The philosophy appears to be one of perpetual turnover.

    Pros

    Nurses work as a team

    Cons

Scheduling is poor, letting people take off vacation during holidays, so remaining staff has no days off during the holidays.

    Advice to Management

Get in touch with your staff and what is going on. Treat your staff in a respectful manner, encouragement means a lot

I have been working at Southeast Missouri Hospital part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Staff nurses continue to have team minded approach. Units/wards are small families and support one another encouraging in professional, personal, and educational endeavors.

    Cons

Chaos in a time of change. Recent change in value of education and the promotion of nursing as a profession by midlevel management. Fiscally minded, but excessively so. There has to be a balance of balancing a budget while still taking care of patients and nurses. The concept of personal and team goals for performance is good. I personally feel this should be a percent raise "if allowed by budget" in addition to a cost of living increase across the board. I am not sure what system HR is using for salary analysis, but it is outdated!! My independent use of three systems, research on Bureau of Labor and Statistics website, and survey by national nursing association's reveal a much different rate of pay.
