    Pros

4.30 am starts bad management, loads of abuse from public

    Advice to Management

Get new jobs as half of them are useless

    Pros

Fair Pay, Free Travel, 35Hr Week, if you can be prepared to put up with the crap from both the public and middle management then this is a good career. Plenty of different jobs and career paths.

    Cons

Early Starts (4am) Loads of complaints. Dealing with rude and abusive public, most management hide away, revenue department is a shambles, In times of delay you are the only thing that represents the company, so you are left out on a limb.

Zero overtime in revenue department although plenty of extra work if you are on the platforms. be aware ticket offices are closing/down sizing.

Blame culture is rife.. so keep your nose clean and you will be fine.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of 50% of revenue managers - they really have not got a clue

I have been working at Southeastern Railway full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The PEOPLE at Southeastern are GREAT!! sure you'll find one here and there that see the world differently, but that is the same in any other company.
Competitive salary, additional benefits such as free travel and medical care etc.

    Cons

Not much that you wouldn't expect from anywhere else. depends where you work I guess, if you work in a maintenance depot then you might feel a little isolated, but then again that would be the same with any other depot.
similar case if you work as a station staff and feel the pressure of working on a face-to-face position, again this could be any employer and you'd have similar pressure from customers.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing and head for the 85 by 18 as this is felt across the business, don't let the tfl take over or the like discourage your aims. The people and the staff are the main aim for the short term.
Maybe more social events and competitions for staff in general would be welcomed to bring about a more family feel to the business (not that its not already like that but to enhance it even more) :)

    Pros

    Free travel. Working hours.

    Cons

Micro management to an extreme. Treated like children. Favouritism and bullish behaviour.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees as people not insects.

I have been working at Southeastern Railway full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people, excellent benefits, fantastic career opportunities, you can feel improvements happening around you, free travel, final salary pension scheme, free flu jab this year

    Cons

Lots of staff been there for years and have negative attitudes. Would prefer flexible benefits so can pick and choose.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing by listening to staff and passengers and making the difference.

    Pros

Free travel and good pension scheme. Company is part of the large Go-Ahead Group so no danger of company not being a going concern.

    Cons

Terrible planning. Senior management do not how to manage budgets and money is wasted at every level. Management roles given to those who serve the longest rather than those who are competent. No thoughts given to strategy or planning.

    Advice to Management

Get better people in as soon as possible or the good ones will leave. Political issues within the business should be addressed. Change should be embraced and not dismissed out of hand.

I worked at Southeastern Railway full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They pay better salary than a lot of other train companies.

    Cons

The early start is very unsociable as you need to be at work at 6 am. They're not flexible say you needed time off for personal issues, it will be difficult to get. There's a lot of favouritism going on with the station managers. The top management do not concern themselves with the staff at lower levels. Poor level of staff care is on the high in this company.

    Advice to Management

Be more committed to employee needs.

I worked at Southeastern Railway full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Friendly colleagues, reasonably relaxed environment

    Cons

Poor training provision, senior management are not committed to developping and supporting staff. Bad management decisions throughout the company. Too many people hold positions simply because they've been there a long time, not because of ability. Overall not a high achieving company.

    Advice to Management

Get some decent people in from outside the industry and let them work some magic. Long service isn't an indication of high performance.
