I worked at Southern California Edison full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Coworkers, salary, benefits are great. The old timers are really into mentoring and the work itself is steady and secure.

    Cons

The politics that stir the ranks of middle management will affect you. Most of the work is processing paperwork and complying with government regulations.

    Advice to Management

    Be encouraging.

I have been working at Southern California Edison full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Salary and benefits, for now...

    Cons

The work environment is poisonous, the culture is one of malaise. There's no real accountability or meaningful performance measurement of any kind, because why would there be - it's a regulated monopoly. If you have any ambition, or want your work to mean anything or have any sort of impact, look elsewhere. If you're a young person, avoid entirely. This is where mid to late career people with families go once they've given up.

    Pros

Good benefits, Corporate value are good. Management is places are fair

    Cons

Reduction of staff and do more with less. You get more work and no more pay for the extra work. Very high stress work workplace.

    Advice to Management

Employee will stay at a company if they are paid for the extra work and stress.

I worked at Southern California Edison full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Benefits, salary. Nothing else

    Cons

Aweful awful awful place to work. Constant layoffs for the five years I was there. Zero innovation. Resistance to change. Slackers will work there for 30 years... The smart go getters leave quickly once they realize that almost any company is better.

    Advice to Management

Sell transmission... Never will win another competitive project... Sell distribution once it becomes competitive... You have failed so might as well give it to someone who wont.

    Pros

    - Strong leadership that is forward thinking
    - SCE is increasingly filled with young, motivated talent that supports the direction of the company
    - SCE's reputation for technological and environmental leadership is unparalleled

    Cons

    - Lower job security relative to other utilities as SCE is trying to lower costs, which means substantial job cuts in some areas
    - Knowledge management challenges with loss of some experienced workers leads to rework and relearning

I have been working at Southern California Edison full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Moving towards alternative energy. A great direction to be headed. Great benefits and a clean working environment. 401K match at 6%.

    Cons

Poor transition to new business vision. Run for the hills until they can figure themselves out. Toxic leadership and employee moral.

    Advice to Management

VP's that have multiple ethics violations and poor leadership should be asked to leave. Employees follow leaders behaviors.

I have been working at Southern California Edison full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Nice, smart people for the most part. Interesting work about half the time.

    Cons

Extremely onerous processes, especially working to procure anything new and IT related (which everything is these days). Takes forever to get procurement done, unless you have VP and above clout weighing in. Seems there are 10 groups that need to sign off on relatively simple, inexpensive contracts.

    Advice to Management

Need more procurement reps and fewer processes to jump through. And there should be service level agreements that limit the time you can be put on hold at the bottom of a pile.

I have been working at Southern California Edison full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of good opportunities for learning new tasks and functions in different projects.

    Cons

It's the blind leading the blind. No one knows what they are doing so its trial and error.
Management has very little respect for people with extensive experience from previous employment.

    Advice to Management

Hire from outside to lessen the "narrow-think" culture.
