I worked at Southern California Edison (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Reasonable Benefits, Competitive Salary, 6% Matching 401k, and 25% Discount on Electrical Bill. The work is stimulating and keeps you busy.

    Cons

The working groups are very difficult to work with and can be very competitive, even among those who are in your same group. Diversity can be nice but causes many cultural conflicts. To be honest, I am an American Traditionalist and it is sad to see the American Values that this company once held erode over the years by compromises and the bottom-line.

    Advice to Management

    Repeal & Replace

I have been working at Southern California Edison full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Progressively thinking company and team. Workplace environment very supportive.

    Cons

Unless you are in a growth position, annual increase is limited from 1-3%

    Advice to Management

Coach and motivate people. There are many that want to improve and move ahead, but management does not take an interest.

I have been working at Southern California Edison full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great pay, benefits, and depending on what department you're in, good work/life balance. Post layoff atmosphere feels like our jobs are not in constant jeopardy like in previous years.

    Cons

Very little chance of advancement in the near future due to recent layoffs. The company does not like to innovate as it is very risk adverse and very rarely wants to change from the status quo.

    Advice to Management

Remember that your employees are people. Decisions may not be personal but to the individual they are affecting they are extremely personal. Years of the constant threat of layoffs has been damaging to morale.

TIme for new leaders to come in and help change the corporate culture of back stabbing, cronyism and theory x management.

I worked at Southern California Edison as a contractor

    Pros

Nice work environment. Employees here are relaxed and less stressful. Power settlement analysts, energy traders and other end customers are very supportive with the IT team.

    Cons

Lot of employees were fired just for cost cutting even though they had contributed a lot. Apart from this, many contractors were hired. Transition and knowledge transfer was done in poor way which led to many issues during support.

    Advice to Management

It is important to take care of your employees. Need to keep your own employees rather than hiring contractors.

I have been working at Southern California Edison full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Best benefits I have ever had
    Good pay
Decent work life balance (most of the time)

    Cons

    Old school mentality
Very political and process heavy (very long useless processes throughout the company)
    Red tape and bureaucracy
Cost cutting and lay offs are on the top of the list for executive. Despite of this, the company is extremely inefficient in the way it operates.

    Advice to Management

If you hire smart people, let them drive change. Stop with the cost cutting talk all the time as it drove employee morale to the lowest levels possible. Drive towards efficiency as opposed to head count reductions.
