I worked at Southern States part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Honestly I can’t think of any at all.

    Cons

Working all day while your manager talks on the phone and leaves whenever they want to, sometimes leaving you by yourself with a store full of people. They will also hire you as “part time” but leave you as temp so they don’t have to pay benefits.

    Advice to Management

I would look closer onto your managers of retail stores. The reasons they might be doing poor may lie there.

    Pros

    Cons

Lack of support, Still in the Coop mode when the new generation could care less. Worked in ther 60's. Continues to sell off assests to stay in business. Just sold Central Office location, Georgia and Florida Retail Stores, and Feed Manufacturing. Can not continue on this Cousrse. Uses GPS to Spy on employes and keep track of them. Lack of suppoet in job sector,

    Advice to Management

Do away with GPS and listen to what your employees say. Do away eith the old Coop concept.

I worked at Southern States full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

-Everyone below director works less than 40 hrs at the corporate office. -Before they were an unprofitable company (4 years in the red by millions of dollars) there was a culture that you could retire there by not doing anything. -great work/life balance, depending on manager. -solid adoption of new analytical tools such as tableau

      Cons

-Good old boys club, where favoritism is rampant. -Massive layoffs over the past 3 years since old CEO (who was an incompetent jerk) retired. -Executive leadership has mostly been people who have worked at southern states for 30+ years, and worked their way up. Commendable that they made it, but none are leadership material. -Company has consistently been losing money for the past 4 years, and recently had to sell off...

      Advice to Management

-Clean house when it comes to employees working the same role for 20+ years with an inflated salary and pension to match. -Honestly, at this point, probably the best thing to do is to sell the company before it goes bankrupt.

I worked at Southern States full-time for less than a year

      Pros

Worked for Feed Division and it was one of the very best jobs I ever had. Great leadership and opportunity with the organization .

      Cons

Feed Division was put on the market due to some financial challenges with the overall Southern States Cooperative. I left the organization due to the uncertainty of the next organization that would be purchasing Feed Division

      Advice to Management

Do everything you can to get Southern States Cooperative Balance Sheet and Income Statement healthier. Concerns about the financial health of Southern States cause good employees to look for other opportunities outside the Coop.

I worked at Southern States full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Awesome feed. Quality control top notch. F150 work truck.

      Cons

Very cliquey company. They play favorites. If they don’t like you, you are treated like an outsider. That goes for your coworkers and for management. Mediocre raises and bonuses despite growing territories huge numbers. Big brother is always watching. They GPS monitor you and then analyze your every move. No career advancement opportunities. There was known sexual harassment between a manager and those who reported...

      Advice to Management

Reward your employees who are working hard not just those who are your favorites. Do not ask your employees to do things that the managers are not practicing themselves. Do as I say not as I do does not work to gain respect. Fix the company because it is going to go belly up. The writing is on the Wall.
