I have been working at Southern Utah University part-time

    Pros

Very flexible, on campus, one of the higher paying jobs on campus, great skills and habits learned, fun environment and coworkers.

    Cons

Call center type job. Sometimes you have cold lists and you end up calling tons of people just to be hung up on or end up leaving a voicemail.

I worked at Southern Utah University part-time for more than a year

    Pros

At least you’ll make $8 an hour

    Cons

Pay is minimum, not a good chance for increases. Deal mostly with upset customers and university staff. Large amount of work for little pay.

I worked at Southern Utah University part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Flexible scheduling with classes, pay is comparable to other on campus part time jobs.

    Cons

Little to no raises, demanding, not fun work environment, little support from management

    Advice to Management

All the upper people at SUU are great... my problems with management, came from my direct boss over the Tutoring Center. I felt like there was no employee support, and no quality control for tutors. I also felt like the environment made it unpleasant to go to work every day.

I have been working at Southern Utah University part-time for more than a year

      Pros

Decent wages flexible hours holidays off

      Cons

      treated like a student worker

      Advice to Management

Create a better environment where students are treated with more respect and dignity rather than a low-life.

I have been working at Southern Utah University full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

proximity to the outdoors and national parks

      Cons

Administration looks out for themselves and themselves alone. We have had significant gains in administrative lines - with very nice salaries. Faculty and staff - very modest increases. The new LRT has no provision for merit based pay increases. With the advent of the new 3-year degree = 50% increase in workload (one extra term) but a 30% increase in pay if we accept the 50% increase in workload.

      Advice to Management

Please find ways to fund student-faculty research. Please promote the education of your students, opportunities for faculty to become engaged in their academic discipline, rather than looking to bolster your own aspirations of political office. Please do not tell faculty & staff that this is only a stepping stone for your career. At least administration is honest in their broader aspirations.

I worked at Southern Utah University full-time for more than a year

        Pros

descent salary pay, new nicely equipped aircraft and fleet. Good maintenance department.

        Cons

Bad management, Poor policies enforcement and creation. Good to work for until they need to change policy or requirements in there best interest and will turn on there own employees to save there own back. They will create lies to make themselves look right, and management is egotistical. Beware they will not support you or have your back when you need it and wont hesitate to screw you over even if it makes them look...

        Advice to Management

Stop twisting peoples words into lies to make yourself look better, check your ego, maybe actually support your instructors fully and financially without creating ridiculous and arbitrary standards, and get a hold of your check airmen who are spreading false rumors and information. Some of these checks had zero instruction experience and thought they knew how to run the place over someone with vastly more experience than...

I have been working at Southern Utah University full-time for more than 8 years

        Pros

Positive atmosphere, fun place to work. You feel like you're making a difference for students. For Cedar City there are few employers that offer benefits like SUU does, even if the pay isn't the highest.

        Cons

Politics, various departments making power plays. One day they can't run things without you, the next day you're expendable. Too much ready, fire, aim, instead of ready, aim fire. HR policies are distorted to fit the whims of administration. Not many opportunities for advancement.

        Advice to Management

People will walk through fire for you when they feel what they do matters, and that they are valued. Don't take advantage of that.

I worked at Southern Utah University full-time for more than 8 years

        Pros

Great environment as long as you are the dominant religion, play on the right side of the political climate (ultra conservative) and don't stick your neck out for anyone.

        Cons

Horrible HR staff. The HR department does not support employees unless you are upper administration.

        Advice to Management

Look into your Directors and make sure they are actually being ethical. Most directors treat their employees poorly but employees have no recourse because HR does not investigate any claims or concerns.
