I worked at Southwest Airlines full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The fellow customer service agents in my training class were wonderful, caring and hardworking.

    Cons

Supervisors who lack any basic people management skills or social skills for that matter.
Unrealistic mandatory overtime. You could be expected to work 19 hours straight (albeit with breaks) and then be back at the airport 5 hours later. No time for sufficient sleep/rest. Phone calls at 2:00 AM on days off requesting that you come in to work. Low pay ($13.50/hr) not commensurate with physical expectations.

    Advice to Management

The Denver operation doesn't seem to be consistent with other locations within the Southwest Airlines system. VERY understaffed and morale is awful. DEN referred to as the "turnstile station" with good reason. Might make sense to get HQ HR in to DEN for some staff interviews.

    Pros

Great benefits flexible schedules some good people

    Cons

Too much favoritism don't reward hard work

    Advice to Management

The worst when it comes to hiring you don't hire for skills but for friendships just look at your last round of inflight interviews in Denver TOTALLY BOGUS!!! Some people didn't have any customer service skills and got hired due to mommy already being in inflight so strings were pulled and people with those skills you told they needed to work on them huh really and this is coming from someone who got the position!!!!!!

I have been working at Southwest Airlines full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

This job is a lifestyle change, but it is the most fun, flexible job I've ever had. Everyone who works here loves it and we all get along like one big family. When you are off duty you rarely have to think about work and can really enjoy your time off. This is a job for extroverts who love to travel and serve others.

    Cons

Being away 3 days a week requires a good support system at home if you have children. A trusted nanny or reliable family member is a must. Also, we only get paid for the time in the air so all that ground time tidying the aircraft and boarding passengers is a gift of your time to the company. And flight delays usually don't earn you any extra money either.

    Advice to Management

Keep hiring for personality and training for skills. We want to keep our company culture to stay one of the best.
