I worked at Southwest Behavioral Health Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working hours were awesome and I had a great boss

    Cons

Now after trying to get back to working after a bad accident it seems as though hiring managers won't come out and say it, but they do not like people who are disabled.

    Advice to Management

Retrain hiring managers in ADA compliance. Stop letting HR cover for them. The people I interviewed with apparently didn't write everything down on their feedback forms, and only saw that I walk with a cane. Apparently knowing clients from one program, and them remembering you despite some cognitive function loss from a certain medical condition doesn't speak to the impact a BHT can have on a client. The managers at the Desert Cove house need to be retrained in how to properly interview a possible staff member, and also need to be retrained on complete note taking if they are going to be responsible for interviewing. I am filing an ADA complaint next week since the HR manager didn't get back to me regarding this issue.

    Pros

Great people to work with, pay is decent, benefits, and time off. Flexible with family emergencies

    Cons

High turn over, understaffed, burn out

I worked at Southwest Behavioral Health Services full-time

    Pros

The pay could be worse, work with some great people.

    Cons

Upper management are out of touch and don't trust or value their frontline staff. Very few raises. BHTs are expendable. Always adding more responsibilities to the already unrealistic workload.

    Advice to Management

Hire employees you can respect, pay a competitive wage, give meaningful incentives (i.e. decent raises) and have realistic expectations. This will lead to less turnover and burnout and ultimately will be reflected in the care you provide to the people you serve.

I have been working at Southwest Behavioral Health Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you're truly passionate about healing and helping others through their journey in life... This is a rewarding job.

    Cons

Lack of diversity inclusion... Lack of employee appreciation... No incentives or bonuses... We didn't even receive Christmas cards from our upper management. Extremely poor, dangerous working conditions. Over worked, poor salary. High turn over. Inconsistent training or lack thereof. Lazy co workers. No team effort. Everyone is overworked and upset because they don't possess the education they need to advance. Major overhaul is needed.

    Advice to Management

Start over! Your upper management is out of touch with the basic skills needed to retain employees. There's no sense of unification or appreciation for your staff... Who work long grueling hours probably doing a job they aren't even qualified to complete. Listen! How many more people need to quit?!? Offer better more consistent training that's in alignment with the position they will be performing. Offer incentives to boost morale. These reviews will continue to get worse if changes aren't made!! You can't build success without a team effort.

I worked at Southwest Behavioral Health Services part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

This was the most rewarding job I have ever had! I was given the opportunity to assist those with serious illness lead a normal fullfilling life .

    Cons

The management has no accountability and give those jobs that could possibly put them in a position to be accountable to others- they always assist each other look good. Not their workers, just temperature. It's sad. They can't keep staff.

    Advice to Management

Have the higher management really find out what is going on. . Even the lowest functioning people know what is happening g!! What a shame no one wins but the mid-higher management. I truly feel bad for the clients and the staff that get treated poorly if your not in the "In group". What's crazy!! Everyone knows, even other companyies!!

I worked at Southwest Behavioral Health Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Long history of business within the community. Great system of care to meet the needs of staff and clients.

    Cons

Very Cliqish. If you are with the in group you are covered if not manages and managers will set you up for failure.

    Advice to Management

    Resolve middle management biases.

    Pros

Good benefits, mostly nice co-workers, fun work environment.

    Cons

Only accepts AHCCCS insurance. Not enough staff & unusually high staff turnover.

    Advice to Management

Look into accepting more insurance carriers. Revamp employee satisfaction in order to retain good workers.

I worked at Southwest Behavioral Health Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are some good staff who really do want to help

    Cons

Executive management team is a joke. Many, including the CEO, have been with the company for 30+ years and are protected. If you don't stay in line with them, you'll be gone. They'll lay you off and not fill the position for 5-6 months to cover themselves...all just to get rid of someone they see as a problem-child but don't have any sort of documentation to support disciplinary action. This company boasts about its employees being the heart of organization but they're actions suggest anyone (but executive "good 'ol boys") are replaceable.

    Advice to Management

Board of Directors need to get involved and look at turnover and themes since the CEO won't. The executive "leadership" needs to be overhauled and maybe the company would then have a chance at being a decent place to work.

    Pros

Some of the most incredible people I have ever worked with, open communication with management, and fluidity to make each role your own.

    Cons

Limited room for growth without a master's degree.

    Pros

Excellent pay and benefits. That's really the only pro, other than the clients are fun to work with.

    Cons

No concern for clients or the licenses of staff. Not well run or safe.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, especially the ones who have a considerable number of other job options. The clients are the ones who loose when you don't treat employees like the professionals they are. Also, learn something about psychiatry, not just therapy and social services.
