I worked at Southwestern Advantage as an intern

    Pros

Good opportunity for college students who are interested in sales careers after school. You will land any sales job you want if you do this well. Do not do this thinking the skills will translate to other career types.

    Cons

Emotionally exploitive environment that leaves something to be desired. The line between job and friendship is often skewed, until you leave the job, in which case you will learn that your value truly comes down to dollars and cents.

    Advice to Management

Modernize the company. Products, public relations, etc.

-Often a great team of motivated people to work with

    Cons

-Easy to enter group think and for people to be scared by the intensity of the job

    Advice to Management

    - Look for more ways to provide internal motivation for first years, it is easy for people to think that they are being brainwashed by the intense motivational prepwork that is required for the job

I worked at Southwestern Advantage as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

One of the few internships, or jobs for that matter, that will challenge you beyond your limits. A great opportunity for massive amounts of personal and professional growth. You make friends here that you'll have for life. You have many resources to coach you and train you along with training events throughout the year. Work hard play hard culture. You will get to travel for training and for work and you have the chance to win trips for being a top performer.

    Cons

It's a business, and it's sales so the bottomline is money. That's what's most important to the company although they may present themselves in a different light. The products and (books and websites/online sources) do not get used by the families as much as you think. In fact, many families don't use the products at all once they purchase them. It is hard to be truly convicted in selling a product that doesn't get used often, if at all. The career services team is helpful...if you are looking for a job/career closely related to sales. You are a 1099 independent contractor so you get no benefits and you have to take care of all your expenses even ones related to required training.

    Advice to Management

    Start selling solar.

I worked at Southwestern Advantage as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

You get to travel and go to places you probably would never have gone. You can potentially make good money. You can learn great sales skills and work on your speaking abilities as well.

    Cons

It is very hard work and you may not make any money at all after expenses. I;m talking over 60 hours a week of door to door sales by yourself in the hot summer.

    Advice to Management

Be real with the potential interns about what they are getting themselves into.

    Pros

Great people. Learn a lot. If you're willing to work your butt off for a whole summer, it's well worth it.

    Cons

The culture is so fun people sometimes sell too many summers. 2-3 is perfect.

    Advice to Management

    Pay recruiters better.
