"Great employee culture, uncaring HR leadership."

    Pros

The employee base is great. Friendly people, warm and welcoming. The kind who work together easily because they are good people and respect one another. Most of the leaders throughout the divisions are amazing people who have been with the company for a long time and genuinely care about their employees and the success of the company. I've been to every location and the same rings true for every employee group. They're really amazing people, and you can't help but form a great affinity for the company after working here thanks to them.

    Cons

Human Resources is over-concerned with their power and position within the company, which is much greater than they let on. The recruiters and supportive staff are well-intended, but the HR Leadership Team is uncaring and will play politics within the HR Department and other divisions to further themselves. Jenny McCauley is a brilliant woman, but could not be further detached from the employee base of which she governs. The leaders in HR may not act maliciously, but their absorbent ego precludes them from honestly performing their duties with any integrity. This directly affects the divisions throughout the company, and major strategy direction within the executive team. And, unfortunately, the new CEO, Bill Way, is a politician, not a leader. He hold babies and shakes hands, and may mean well, but he is not a team player.

    Advice to Management

Put down your egos, stop worrying about your appearance, and quit inducing politics into an otherwise lovely company. Stop protecting your network of friends when you know they are toxic to the company. Reward genuine workers and they will repay you with their loyalty and hard work.

I worked at Southwestern Energy full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

New building, nice benefits package, fun group to work with. 9/80 work week was nice.

    Cons

Senior management is disconnected from employees and uses style from a different era. Additionally they're mostly from failed companies and make poor business decisions based on the "good ol' boy" system and not solid data . HR is schizophrenic, some very good people and some who never should have been in an HR role.

Company had a nice car pool program (probably gone now) but 2 hours commuting daily was a serious health problem.)

    Advice to Management

Learn how to make solid decisions based on your employee input and not from your buddies outside the company. Stop hiring your failed friends, hire quality management. If you're going to teach the formula, live it.

    Pros

Great group of people that genuinely care about their employees. Highly innovative and always
looking for new ways to grow and develop the business.

    Cons

Business is highly dependent on natural gas commodity price. Company is dealing with the pains
of growing from a small, everyone knows each other type company to a larger company where
systems must be employed to manage the business.

    Advice to Management

Continue to run the business within cash flow. Explore new and better ways to communicate
business goals and imperatives to employees at all levels of the enterprise.

    Pros

Great benefits and incentive plan. Reasonable work/life balance. Company is very culture oriented offering many employee amenities. Beautiful state of the art work environment in Houston headquarters

    Cons

Senior management mishandle investment into future project. The project will eventually pay dividends, but at the cost of many jobs. Senior management is in the process of being replaced, so hopefully this will be remedied.

    Advice to Management

Kept your greatest asset, employees, protected.
