I have been working at Southwire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you know what you are doing you can move up the ladder. Hard work pays off and is noticed by upper management. Changing culture which is looking for younger talent and new products and services.

    Cons

Certain divisions can move slow and are stuck in the past. Some employees have been with the company for too long and are stuck in their old ways and are resistant to change.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing, The culture is changing and that is a good thing. Hold people accountable, and eliminate the old school employees resistant to change.

I have been working at Southwire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Southwire can be an amazing company to work for. Great pay (I make $23/hr with only a high school diploma.) I take home about $700/week after tax, 401k, insurance, ect. The Richards family (whom own Southwire) are great people. The readily reinvest in the company and they are growing the Carrollton GA area. Their business strategies are buy, buy, buy! They buy all of their competition I.E. Coleman Cable. There opportunities are their, but you have to be willing to marry the company if you're going to advance.

    Cons

Depending on your plant location you can have amazing managment or horrible managment. That alone is the difference between your job being gravy, or being miserable. I have worked 12/hr/day/ 7/week for a very long time because management refused to fill open positions. I understand that they are trying to avoid layoffs, but we can't be expected to work constantly. The 14 on 1 off rule is BS.

    Advice to Management

Rich Stenson is making a lot of push for "One Southwire" and I respect that so much. But I wish the corporate would take a lot of the Utility plants operatons styles and make that the corporate standard. Not trying to reinvent the wheel. "Old man Richards" had the right idea in mind when he built this company. He knew to always keep the working man first. We create the product, we satisfy the customers. Keep us happy and the customers will be happy too...

Not as much devotion to employee development as possible or would be expected from an international company.

    Advice to Management

Keep striving toward excellence in building communities safely and environmentally aware.

I worked at Southwire as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Worked as a Communications intern for a year. Loved working under my original boss, very kind and hard working, never left me in the dark about anything and always taught me new things as we went along

    Cons

Once my boss left I was transferred to the director of my original supervisor and very quickly my whole view of the company changed. Employees and Executives became very real and rude and fake, once in this new role I was able to see so many people for who they really were.
If your department does not like you they will find every opportunity to get rid of you. After the change in leadership I was only able to handle it for 2 months.

    Advice to Management

Ask the interns how they feel about their supervisors and departments. Find out the difficulties in each department so that other interns won't have to undergo what I did.

I have been working at Southwire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good people.
    Great community involvement.
    Good benefits.

    Cons

Limited growth opportunities... unless you are a chosen favorite by the senior leaders.
Pay is lower than industry average.
Company is extremely top heavy, too many VP's and most aren't qualified.
    A lot of nepotism.

    Advice to Management

Stop playing favorites and give growth opportunities based on merit and not because they are your buddy.
