I worked at Southworth Products as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly managers, great co-worker, small place where you can know every one individually fast, organized small company. Keep up with technology, listen to co-workers.

    Cons

Just small place for many workers, crowded where gets distracted some times.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work
Try to enlarge the Engineering Dept.
Pretty much a lab is needed for practical experiments.

I have been working at Southworth Products full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a great place to work the people are very nice and always upbeat it's a growing company with good benifits and other employees are always willing to help each other

    Cons

All jobs are on a time limit and some are very complex and the engineers make mistakes and causes a lot of rework that goes against the welder

    Advice to Management

Be aware that the welder doesn't make all the issues and it should not count against him address the issue before the welder gets the job in his area

    Pros

Many self-motivated, team oriented employees who truly care about their work.

    Cons

Upper management is very disconnected with daily operations and makes major decisions without adequate information.

    Advice to Management

Give a voice to the people actually working in the trenches!

    Pros

Benefits are not too bad. Enthusiatic individuals will do well in the first few years. Opportunities to learn a lot, either inside with process changes or through education assistance. A good wellness program.

    Cons

Upper Management is very partial to some dysfuncional/disruptive individuals which in turn creates a very negative, non-progressive work environment. The bottom line: they have always done it this way and no matter what is said, things will never change for the better. As a new employee they give you freedom to champion change, but it goes right back to the way it was and then you become obsolete...on to the next new person or consultant. Very sad, many great people have worked there and been driven out...too stifling.

    Advice to Management

Please just admit that it isn't working the way you are doing things. You have had (and have) some great people, let them make change happen. Stop protecting the people that ultimately hold you back. Southworth could be so much more successful!!

    Pros

Company tries to keep moral high through parties & pot lucks. Lot's of nice people. So kind of fun to work there. Not sure if they still do all the parties so without those not much there. Good place to start out I guess.

    Cons

Benefits & Vacation / PTO laughable. Unreasonable length of time required to be vested in pathetic "bonus" plan...also to any vacation time. Political bs & nepotism prevails. sales staff has a tenancy to create unreasonable time lines.

    Advice to Management

Since there is no way you would ever pay more you should at a minimum consider changing your vacation and bonus requirements. I think more people would stay if these things were not so unobtainable 7 years until bonus tenure....come on.

    Pros

Small company where you have the ability to interact with top management daily.
You have the ability to make decisions on your own with daily activities.

    Cons

Too many things happening with out resources to get them all done. The company needs to reevaluate it's business model. Primarily in reactive mode not proactive. Limited chances for advancement.
