I worked at Sovereign Bancorp full-time

    Pros

Good co-workers at the branch level. Some of the benefits are good like 401k and stuff. Like the bank but it all comes down to upper management.

    Cons

Too much pressure about getting sales from friends and family. I was on salary and supposed to work 40 hrs a week and end up working 55 plus hrs. Management is not done properly.

    Advice to Management

Please work in the branch and see what make sense.

I worked at Sovereign Bancorp full-time

    Pros

    Very thorough job training.
Good choice of benefits. I had to add to it but it was worth it for the coverage.
Opportunity for advancement - training available.
    Great atmosphere. Great people.

    Cons

When they started the "Customer First" program, it got uncomfortable. Tellers were expected to get a number of referrals which meant that I had to harass my customers every day with the same stupid questions. That is not "Customer First" but "$$$ first" ideal and it made me feel like I was providing BAD customer experience.

    Advice to Management

I don't know if they still do "Customer First" now but if they do and they're reading this - take a hint. Customers don't like to be harassed.
