I worked at Sovos full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Over a multi-year period, I was able to advance my skills and get promoted into new roles 4 different times. The final promotion came as I left the company to pursue my next career opportunity, which I had only become prepared for through my growth at Sovos. The "educate and advance from within" philosophy is supported and promoted throughout the culture with individual development, team training, leadership skills... programs, and mentoring. Leadership works diligently at providing an environment of clear communication with many efforts to keep the rapidly growing population up to date on changes as they occur. They also have a clear vision of their growth trajectory and make great progress in the areas of compliance and reporting. The HR team is also to be recognized for their efforts to create and support a vibrant and fun culture. Monthly events, employee recognition, fun activities, and a dedication to professional growth have created a place that is great to work.

    Cons

Sovos is a fast growth company that continues to evolve as it grows. This means it is also a rapidly changing environment. If you're the kind of person who embraces change, rises to the challenge, can apply creativity to solve problems, and love to work with other people of the same mindset... you'll love it. ... if you're looking for a boring, repetitive, stagnant, "safe", place to work where nothing ever... changes... keep looking elsewhere.

I have been working at Sovos full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Colleagues. The best thing Sovos has going for them is the people they've hired and retained. Through all the change and growth I've seen over the last few years, my peers have been the people who have been most impactful to my learning and even challenging me and propelling my career. You won't agree with every leader, but Sovos has seemed to focus a lot lately on communicating intention behind change. - Clear... core values & core purpose. Employees are bought in and use the core values in every day conversations. Core purpose is high shooting, but something everyone can relate to and make their own. - FUN! So many creative events and ways to get to know your peers outside your department. The people here even make the working part fun.

    Cons

    - If you don't like change, you wouldn't do well here. However, if you see change as opportunity, which the successful employees do, you might not see this as a con. It can be difficult to change something one day and then the next week be told a different direction, but leadership is open to new ideas which is what encourages change. It's GOOD change. - Sovos hires a lot of people who don't know what they want to... do, but who have solid soft skills and fit the culture. This can lead to people being negative when they can't find their career path. My personal experience with these people is they aren't a good culture fit and often do better moving on to a much larger company with a longer history and one that doesn't change very often. I was someone who didn't know what I wanted to do, but sometimes it can be overwhelming listening to coworkers who take zero accountability for their own career progression.

    Advice to Management

Keep focusing on communicating the "why" to employees. It's so much easier to buy into a change initiative, and even be a driving force behind executing it, when I understand why and can see the end goal. What's my role in the change? I need to be able to see myself there. Some management is better at this than others, naturally. Just keep reminding yourselves!

I have been working at Sovos full-time

    Pros

The employees you get to work with are awesome and really smart. Everyone really cares a lot about the clients and each other. The business has been growing fast, which gives something new to learn, review or participate on. They have strong Values and really seem to care about the culture for employees. Feels like a good time to be at the company.

    Cons

Like any place, the communication sometimes could be better. They seem to be trying, but the systems can be outdated or a problem for connecting globally. They also talk a lot about the new acquisitions which can make it feel like the regular business isn't as important.

    Advice to Management

Keep focusing on the values and the culture. Improve the communication systems to connect with global employees.

Friendly environment Open communication between groups and individuals Food sometimes provided during busy season

    Cons

Very stressful Little chance of moving from temp staff to full-time "Training" are a couple outdated word documents Most often than not just asking a more senior support engineer for help the first couple times any specific problem is encountered.

I worked at Sovos full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Knowledgeable helpful management staff in sales and support. Certain leaders go out of their way to create coachable moments and a fun environment. Some of the products you have the client locked in and can impose mandatory pricing changes with them really having little opportunity to say no. Easy to make your number and it reflects in the leader boards I've seen. Decent products, not cutting edge but proven.

    Cons

Constant turnover throughout the organization now. Most of the time they aren't replacing. Key departures of legacy ee's the last two months that took a majority of domain knowledge with them. The pay across the board is lower than market standards. Company philosophy is hire potential and the can grow into the job since they will take the lower pay (and way below average benefits). Many in sales are going... to look at what the 2018 fiscal plan is and if the organization doesn't rightsize this year will be seeking employment elsewhere. Lastly not investing in current products but continue to buy other companies. Not a bad model but some of their current cash cows are dangerously close to looking obsolete and while not adding any potential for upsell. Marketing support is almost non existent. Constant turnover in this role and the plans that are in place are mostly just trying to redo something that was done many years ago. This isn't being lazy on their part just newer employees that have been given little training and are stretched really thin.

    Advice to Management

You need to start focusing on the people and expectations. For a majority of the groups the expectation were way overstated. I kept hearing what a special place it was to work however the only thing that really fueled success when I was there was the ACA boom. When that went away it really uncovered what the market conditions really were. The market is just too strong in Minnesota for reps especially good ones... to stay at Sovos long without looking at the success that others that have recently left are getting. You've got some great people. If you don't treat them right and give them the opportunity to succeed someone else will.

I worked at Sovos full-time for more than a year

    Pros

This is a young, energetic company with a lot of potential to be a great place to work. They have a start-up type feel with a mixture of corporate environment.

    Cons

I was in a few different roles at Sovos with poor experiences in all of them. It is painfully obvious that the CEO does not care about the operations area and it was very unfortunate to see that. In addition, the operations area has little to no upward mobility and the hours are incredibly long. The sales and marketing area of the company has constant attrition, with that comes constant territory re-alignment and... client dissatisfaction. It becomes very difficult to guarantee and sort of consistency for clients. The marketing area is so under resourced it cannot begin to keep up with the business demands and is very poorly managed. The sales teams are just about on their own for any sort of greenfield/prospecting. Companies are acquired and cultures clash with little plan for synergy of the businesses. Promises are not kept, the business has no sense of direction, leadership is disappointing.
