I worked at Spacelabs Healthcare full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A once great innovator but nothing now. There is no reason to stay. Low pay, inept management, but those are the pros!

    Cons

Management in the past two years, and especially the past seven months has gone off the deep end. They listen to new people who are over their heads and have no clue as to the market needs. They are mis-guided and have no leadership that understands how to get out of the hole they have dug. Their product is at least two generations behind in technology and they have huge reliability issues. Finger pointing is the norm and good people who could fix things are either pushed out or are running from this volatile environment.

    Advice to Management

OSI should clean house! The management you put in place is not going to make this company great again. It is in a death spiral and needs radical cleansing.

I worked at Spacelabs Healthcare full-time

    Pros

Company has some very qualified professionals who are willing to help others grow. The locations is an easy commute to from most places in the greater Seattle area.

    Cons

Very outdated systems. Lack of cohesiveness between departments and even within teams. Employees are commonly viewed as interchangeable entities. Pay is below average and benefits are a joke.

    Advice to Management

Legacy issues are holding Spacelabs back from growing into a sizeable medical device company.

I have been working at Spacelabs Healthcare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Quality people that are a joy to work with. Interesting challenges. And more than enough opportunities to make improvements. If you thrive on solving production challenges, then it is that engineer's dream opportunity.

    Cons

The overhead in all the intricate processes and procedures to keep the FDA happy is a significant drag on innovation.
Pay is average to below average for the Puget Sound region.

    Advice to Management

Focus on real innovation in the core product line. Trying to be all things to all people does not produce real wins long term. Revenue is great, but profitability is even better.

I worked at Spacelabs Healthcare full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Extreme freedom to do what is right for the customer. Once you prove you are a professional, you have extreme freedom to make your own hours, etc with no micro-management. As long as your boss doesn't hear from your customer, you don't hear from him/her. Also, good, interesting work.

    Cons

Once you do a thing, it is yours forever and the better you are at satisfying a customer, the more customers they heap on you. They never quibble about overtime but work/life balance suffers. Also, you have to wear too many hats and you end up not being really good at anything. . Sales has way too much power to flip you from one emergency (that they created), to another. In the end, only workaholics are happy with the workload

    Advice to Management

You keep hemorrhaging talent, no matter what strata of the organization they are in. Meet with the employees. Go into the field and see what life is like behind the spreadsheet. At the very least LISTEN to them with the determination to ameliorate some of the dysfunction.

    Pros

    Cons

Currently the company is not doing financially good. Grossly mismanaged by top level management. Struck up with old fashioned products and not able to keep up with the changing technology and needs

    Pros

A good number of smart, hard working people
    Decent salary

    Cons

Company has a hard time following through making/releasing/selling products
Tends to scrap largely built products and start over
This has lead to frustrated/angry management structure
