I have been working at Spartan Motors full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Variety of projects, decent pay, lots of hours that they DO NOT advertise IF you're looking for that much

    Cons

Major engineer mistakes that roll down hill through ALL of production, CORPORATE oversight and micro managing, NO repercussions for mistakes from engineering but major accountability on the production floor. No compassion or consideration with point system.

I worked at Spartan Motors full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Pay and benefits, I guess.

    Cons

Where to start? The last review sums it up - they are clearly talking about a specific toxic, juvenile, backstabbing, hateful, unprofessional department. There is zero leadership for this team, and as a result, turnover is extremely high. Numerous people have left after less than a year because of a certain manager's preferential treatment of certain team members and horrible treatment of others. If you like being demeaned in front of other people, talked down to, or given ZERO authority, this is the place for you. As for as HR, they talk a good game, but in the end will do nothing to support employees when issues are brought up. Stay away.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the cancer who doesn't know how to lead, otherwise you will continue to lose quality employees. Your reputation is suffering.

    Pros

Not much, truly. There is potential to produce good products and work but you need to have some stability in team to move things forward.

    Cons

This place is absolutely toxic! They lure you in with titles, pay, etc. but soon after you arrive, you see that you have just sold your soul to the devil. Since I have been here, almost the whole team that was hired in within the past year is gone. My classless boss just bad mouths everyone using 4 letter expletives all the time, so I know she is doing that to me when I am not around too. My coworkers are all encouraged to "tattle" to try and save their jobs, so it is not a place where you can trust anyone and DON'T go to HR for help...that is the kiss of death. I need to get out of here!!!

    Advice to Management

Look for the common denominator in all of this and remove her if you want to keep your investment in people. Otherwise, continue to expect turnover and stagnation.

I have been working at Spartan Motors full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company is moving in positive directions with a new CEO, CFO, and segment presidents.

    Cons

The company is in change process mode with many systems right now and it can create frustration but there is a clear view of the future.

    Advice to Management

Spend the money to move along system integration/update processes.

    Pros

Great co-workers. Everyone really cares about producing a quality product.

    Cons

Upper management is out of touch. Trying to run a custom firetruck production line like it was a standard automotive production line.

    Advice to Management

Take off the suits for a couple days and see how things should really be done.

    Pros

None! They pay is the only thing that drew me to the position but in the end it definitely was not worth the hassle and awful verbal abuse by my manager and others.

    Cons

Departments are all unorganized, no one knows what is going on, and upper management is clueless.

Manager was never on time for meetings or sometimes never showed up

The software that is in use is pointless and not efficient. They do have a software upgrade in the works but it has been pushed back the past five years because the IT department cannot figure it out. I believe last I heard that the go live date was 2020!

    Pros

Awesome lower-level co-workers who care about what they do.

    Cons

Upper & middle management don't see what they are doing as being wrong. Agree with the gorilla, or you're out!

    Advice to Management

Act as you preach. Don't say one thing and go off and do another.

    Pros

Have a part in building custom emergency response vehicles for departments all over the country. Know that you are helping communities stay safe and Fire Department do their jobs better.

    Cons

No appreciation for time and efforts put into your job. No compensation for working 60-70 hours a week expect for overtime for hourly positions. No family/life/work balance.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the employees and hire enough so you do not burn them out within the first month. Train them correctly and immediately.
