I worked at Spectra Energy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Benefits, Pay, Flexible Work Schedule

    Cons

5 years ago it was a good place to work, in Supply Chain. In 2012 it turned into a wild political game with lost focus on day to day business and more about departmental agendas. It's sad really.

    Advice to Management

Don't scratch your head wondering where all your talent went. If you don't allow organic growth, you will lose people. Funny how everyone pushed for the leadership development network, yet the company always looked to the outside to fill positions.

I worked at Spectra Energy as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people at Spectra Energy are very nice and welcoming, they have an open door policy and stick to it. Everyone is willing to share their experiences and provide guidance and help with career development and day to day work.

    Cons

Their are no openings in Procurement and Supply Chain Management at this time, the internship program is still very new, and there is a lack of structure for new hires post graduation.

    Advice to Management

    N/A

I worked at Spectra Energy as a contractor (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits if you are an employee. You really don't have to know anything if you are an employee since they have way more contractors to do the work than actual employees.

    Cons

Could be a good company to work for if you can get hired on directly. If your a contractor you get no benefits, no paid time off and Spectra does not want to pay for any of these services they expect you to work everyday with no time off.

    Advice to Management

Start testing your actual employees and make sure that they know how to do the job before you offer them the positions. And not just hire based on looks since half the men in power just want to look at women that are skinny and where six-inch heels and short dresses to work.

    Pros

9/80 schedule, full benefits, 3 Wks vacation starting, full reimbursement for school tuition (if manager approves)

    Cons

low salaries, management does not listen to employee complaints, poor work moral (some groups not all) no clear way to measure employee success, promotions and raises are handed to "teacher pets", limited advancement opportunities- managers are no help, company is cheap no Christmas Party, NYs etc., internal movement to other departments WILL NOT HAPPEN regardless of experience or education

    Cons

Take more value in the development and success of your direct reports. Give them a chance to grow instead of demand perfection. Give new employees no matter the onboarding type a detailed orientation to the company, position, team, and expectations.
