    Pros

I can't think of any . . . truly the worst experience of my career so far.

    Cons

Lead Management is a niche market with limited growth opportunities. Bully mentality with some in leadership. Back-stabbing and fickle culture led by a management team that "talks the talk" but inconsistently "walks the walk". Leaves employees frustrated, confused, and feeling unappreciated for the long hours of work and dedication we've put into our jobs to drive success for the company.

I worked at Spectranetics full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

All product is manufactured in the good ole' USA (as of today) annnnd the view is spectacular (or spooktacular) at the Colorado Springs facility.

    Cons

Management is top-heavy, many brown-nosers, immature regulatory managers, inefficient change management system, unrealistic expectations with ALL projects being high priorities, approvel denied for continuing job-related education, & a high turn-over rate. The company calls its employees 'teammates' in the 'Spectranetics' family'. If this family fluff were to be true, would a parent disown his/her own child if s/he received a poor grade on one of his/her report cards? No, a decent parent would not... but the "Spectranetics' family" would for surely disown (aka dismiss) the relatively new "teammate" in the "Spectranetics' family" for non-conformance to being a brown-noser.

    Advice to Management

Good luck (if you believe in luck)... the damage is done.

I worked at Spectranetics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Wonderful, committed, and capable professionals producing clinically-effective and meaningful products. Spectranetics does an outstanding job attracting top talent. Colorado Springs is a wonderful place to live.

    Cons

Spectranetics can't keep their top talent because the culture on the posters is not embraced by senior management. Operations senior management is more about instilling fear than driving empowerment or recognizing results. R&D management is so busy managing up that they don't provide feedback to develop their staff, and can't keep focus to effectively deliver new products (read "squirrel"). What started as an inclusive Hewlit-Packard management approach has degraded to the worst of the GE slash and burn mentality.

    Advice to Management

Walk the talk of your company culture. You had the opportunity to build something truly special. You might still be successful, but you need to make some big changes at the top to realize the goal.

    Pros

Decent Salary. Can't think of any other pros.

Low cost of living. Given they have driven off most talented people it is easy to shine.

    Cons

    Abusive incompetent management.

Classic kick down kiss up types who act like middle school bullies.

Management is extremely prone to fads and exists in a perpetual state of panic.

Zero loyalty to employees. They perp walk people to the door after years of dedicated service (because the CEO mislead investors and missed his numbers).

Culture is one of fear and intimidation made laughable by buffonish incompetence.

Hope you like meetings because you will be attending at least 30 per week.

    Advice to Management

    Fire people who abuse subordinates.

Reduce the number of meetings by a factor of 10.

Nepotism and cronyism are poor strategies for choosing Senior Leadership.

    Pros

Great skiing in Colorado, true leaders still employed who know how to fix the dysfunctional mess that is SPNC, new technology expectations that can actually transform the organization.

    Cons

A culture that is completely lost, values that are words on a sign, Marketing miss after Marketing miss, TAPAS - complete waste of valuable resources, Capture/Access - Misguided, Booster/Tandem/Power - No Data (please don't mention EXCITE, the data is actually a joke), 600+ pound behemoth of a power box, leadership that follows advice of Marketing personnel who actually believe the technology works like the animation videos they develop.

    Advice to Management

Be less concerned about push to hire women, hire the right person, if it's a women great, give her the job. Actually live your "Values", they're well thought out but worthless if not put to practice. Do so and you'll win back the culture. Good luck, I'll be watching.

    Pros

The people are great (mid-level and lower). Teamwork is stressed and people usually rally around each other to go the extra mile to get the job done.

    Cons

Senior management is all talk and no action - and there is no accountability. People who suck up are rewarded, while the people who do the actual work get no recognition.

    Advice to Management

Get your stuff together and actually know what's going on in the trenches. You talk all day long about attract, retain, and develop, but you don't do anything about it...treat your employees better and don't reward incompetence.

    Pros

Some autonomy exists within support organizations

    Cons

Poor business processes. Poor support group accountability. Company completely overleveraged with philosophy of acquisitions to drive revenue increase without subsequent profitability and no plan to integrate same. Senior management demonstrates poor business acumen over prioritization of capital/expense funding outlays. Examples include spending money on empty offices in Boulder and huge café/ soft service subsidies while the manufacturing line is completely manual with sweat shop mentality of last minute scramble type decisions and poor pay (seriously like a skit from Dave Chappelle).

    Pros

Very talented sales force in the field. The job in the field is very interesting. That's really just about it.

    Cons

Management on every level. Sycophant culture of sucking up. No contact with reality (i.e. what's happening in the field). The corporate culture they purport value so much is nothing but hot air. Attract, hire, retain the best talent? Only if your talent is in saying yes, brown-nosing and sucking up. Management has no vision, they constantly are readjusting quarter to quarter, and they will absolutely sell you out to make themselves look good mostly because they have no idea of what they are doing. Avoid working here unless you have no other choice.

    Advice to Management

Since none of them will leave, maybe they could start by treating your employees decently. Listen to your reps in the field for a change.

    Pros

Even though the company is mid-sized they do operate like a start up but the work life balance is good. Other than that it goes all downhill from there.

    Cons

The HR at the company are the worst. You can never get a response from them. Either they are lazy or understaffed so they need to figure out a way to get better. If you have an urgent issue forget about it. It takes a number of emails and messages to get any kind of response.
The management has no clue what they are upto. They come up with random strategies that never work.
You can participate in ESPP but cannot sell for upto a year.
    401K matching is bad.
Organisation structure is flat so there is no upward mobility.
