I have been working at Spectrum Brands (Less than a year)

    Pros

Roll up your sleeves and leave your title at the door. Spectrum has a "get it done" attitude and the teams truly pull together to drive strategy, sales, and fix problems. Part of the culture is the great Madison area but Spectrum has shifted into growth mode creating tremendous opportunities for a long term career. From the CEO to the Senior Leadership team you feel plugged into the new energy and the acquisition strategy is exciting.

    Cons

I wouldn't say con as much as opportunity. The new teams in place will help define the longer term strategy and continue to test and learn new ways to market at retail and online.

I worked at Spectrum Brands as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working with other interns and other engineers. Clean environment and plenty of office tools. Up to date equipment and tools.

    Cons

Some of the other employees don't like dealing with interns. Spent some time looking for things to do. Not enough work space for interns and other ongoing projects.

    Advice to Management

Make sure the projects the interns have are interesting.

I worked at Spectrum Brands (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Benefits are great
Majority of people are good to work with

    Cons

Company is growing by leaps and bounds so it has less than a family type atmosphere (impersonal).
Quite a few departments are being outsourced - something to keep in mind

I have been working at Spectrum Brands full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Ability to wear many hats as roles are based on how much you can give. There is never a boring day.

    Cons

The work life balance is off. A 50 hour week is a normal one. With the many acquisitions management is slow to increase headcount.

    Advice to Management

Allow front line workers to influence headcount instead of disconnected backoffice.

    Pros

For the most part, nice & friendly people. This is all I have to say but this part is 20 words minimum so here you go.

    Cons

All they look at are numbers; nothing else matters. Lack of training & guidance. Expected to know what you're doing in a short period of time.

    Advice to Management

    Leadership.

    Pros

It was a great casual atmosphere with a free gym. I worked here to fill in for an employee who left for personal reasons for a few months. Everyone was real nice and they provided plenty of training and other perks to temporary workers along with the full time employees.

    Cons

The IT services could use some updates in areas.

    Pros

Facilities are a plus: gym, cafeteria, and company store
    Casual dress code
    Diverse group of people

    Cons

    Very little training
No work life balance depending on your department
If you're entry level, HR doesn't negotiate on your salary or vacation time

    Advice to Management

Give better training to employees and quit expecting 1 person to do a 2 person job
