I have been working at Spectrum Brands full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent Pay for what you do
    Fairly easy work

    Cons

Long hours with a lot of weekends
Never know when you are working
Hot in the summer and cold in the winter
Management does not listen to suggestions of employees
Very top down approach to running things (i.e. do as we say and don't question it)

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, they know what they are talking about and how best to handle the jobs they already do.

I worked at Spectrum Brands (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Overall the people there are a lot of fun and it's a pretty relaxed atmosphere.

    Cons

Depending on who you are, there's really no succession planning. There's no rhyme or reason (other than favoritism) for who gets promoted. When you ask management, they can't even explain it. High performers are lumped in with low performers so there's little incentive to bust your butt.

    Advice to Management

Reward the good people and keep your promises.

I worked at Spectrum Brands full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

For the most part, nice & friendly people. This is all I have to say but this part is 20 words minimum so here you go.

    Cons

All they look at are numbers; nothing else matters. Lack of training & guidance. Expected to know what you're doing in a short period of time.

    Advice to Management

    Leadership.

I worked at Spectrum Brands as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexibility to learn new skills within internship. Company funds classes to learn Retail Link.

    Cons

Sales office is competitive and lacks a team oriented focus. Job expectations are often unclear.

    Advice to Management

reduce the toxicity within the workplace.

    Pros

Gained a lot of knowledge about supply chain and how a company like spectrum uses its supply chain as a competitive advantage. Got to tour different factories and warehouses to understand their supply chain as a whole, and got to get out of the office once a week and implement strategies into one of their smaller warehouses.

    Cons

A lot of down time. I mean a lot. There was no structure to the program and every now and then something would come up to work on, but after that it was back to sitting around.

    Advice to Management

Have a better plan for interns.

I have been working at Spectrum Brands full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

the people and co workers can be great when they are allowed to get out of the silos. They will pay well to get you in, but most people haven't had a merit raise in 5 years.

    Cons

upper management has been purging anyone who doesn't assimilate. this would be ok if they had a plan. but they have yet to communicate their vision or plan. they are getting rid of anyone who asks the tough questions. half of marketing has been let go, some fired after a forced relocation. The other half is scared to death that they are next. The "leaders" that are left are either brand new or are the meek that wont stand up to the management team. HR used to be a place you could seek advise, now it is a microphone to the corporate office. Open door policy has been replaced with "talk in dark corners where no one can hear" I've got to get out of here before I go insane!

    Advice to Management

stop reading the cliff notes.... and become leaders!

    Pros

Fast paced, busy environment. If you like challenge and working overtime - it is the place. People are nice, company store is a good addition.

    Cons

if you are looking to move to a new location, give up your current job for a slight increase in pay or the prestige of working in a global company....think twice! Because they WILL NOT! When it comes to getting rid of you. They won't even tell you why. HR knowledge of their job is very poor, handling it is even worse. My opinion isn't based on my experience only, the way they handle their responsibilities isn't the way a global company should.
Like someone leaving the company once told me "Glad to get out of here, otherwise I'd always be looking out for backstabbers". Couldn't agree more and would never recommend this place or use their product.

    Advice to Management

Your HR department is the face of your company. A very poor representation.
