I worked at Spectrum Brands (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Located in the best city in the country!

    Cons

Leadership can't make difficult decisions. Keep employee's for gender balance, not because of performance. Lots of turnover especially in HR.

    Advice to Management

Get connected to your employee's. Respect needs to go both ways. Time to show people you care.

I worked at Spectrum Brands full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Spectrum is a huge company with a decent benefits package.

    Cons

Dreadfully mismanaged. They are a multi-billion dollar company and yet they consistently find new ways to delay payments to their suppliers. This often results in them getting put on business hold and running out of raw materials. Specifically on the improvement front, they say they are all about it but they aren't really ready to push for real changes. They want to hold hands and everybody feel good about things. If any action results in any conflict then HR steps in and reverses the changes. The employees are constantly running in to HR to complain about every slight real or imagined. It just isn't a professional workplace and they do nothing to push it in that direction.

    Advice to Management

The Noblesville site, while it feels like a family, is a very dysfunctional family. Rules need to be cut and dry. Changes need to be made and they need to be stuck to. Being ineffective and wishy washy about things has caused you to lose a significant portion of the business and the employees. The company as a whole continues to make a lot of money but this plant in particular continues to suffer. I constantly see posts about how the corporate offices and some of the divisional offices are doing fun things for their employees while other plants are left falling apart and are short staffed. Some of the plants look like show places while other plants are neglected and look like they haven't been touched in 20+ years.

    Pros

Fun people to be around, all the overtime you could ever imagine, on avaerage 2-3 days off a month, don't have to worry about being home with your family.

    Cons

Temps, dirty restrooms, people who enforce the weekend workload are rarely there, horrible organization, shift changes are poorly executed so its a free for all on certain shifts.

    Advice to Management

Find out the credentials of your leaders, better background checks on employees, and stop treating us like undereducated trained monkeys. Just because some people do not have that piece of paper from an over priced university, it doesn't make them inferior to you.
