Registered Nurse

I’ve been working as an RN for ~2.5yrs now with experience in AcuteTele & CVICU. I’m doing my MSN Administration right now. Threw my hat in randomly for a nurse manager position and got called in for an interview but now feeling very nervous as I prep for it. I know I don’t have enough experience compared to some of the other applicants but any word of advice from fellow RNs & nurse managers on how to make myself seem like a better candidate? I want to try my hardest!

    Pros

    general perks to working in the community. Flexible schedules and work close to home.

    Cons

    - lack of employee support - coordinators have no regard for employee workload before asking employees to work - assignments are added to workload without employee consent - PSWs are contacted as if they are on call and asked to work shifts outside of their availability

    Pros

    You get enough PPE. Lots of emails for announcements. PDF from your schedule.

    Cons

    You get clients without asking. You don’t know who you are getting to. Hard to reach to office people. PDF is only for schedule to see. Not for calling. But office ask PSWs to call each clients to give a call the day before your visits.

    New management gave false promises upon acquiring smaller company. Typically usual and expected, but no room for compromise or open to alternative suggestions to facilitate organizational efficiency. Dismissed.

    Great direct care team(field and managers) Organized for PSWs. Decent pay.

    Cons

    Higher management was a mess!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Company incentives NEVER were awarded to on the field staff. It was always people at the desk behind phones that were awarded wonderful prizes. They would be corporate staff mostly! MOST of the time the PSWs going into the homes would speak to the clients or their families about new services to the people they saw daily/weekly. But when they would call into the office to add services, the desk people would take the credit - therefore winning the prizes. I knew many PSWs who complained their efforts were unrecognized. Unfair system. The company Spectrum took over was SOO MUCH better in recognizing field workers efforts. They also say the longer you work there the more clients/ hours you'd have or they would assign you clients who were more than 1hr visits. Not true. Some extremely new hires got better clients & hours than those field staff workers that worked for 5+ years.

    Reasons not to work for Spectrum Healthcare

    Clients are nice. Some Coordinators are helpful

    Cons

    Fight for PPE at beginning of Pandemic No Raise in 7 years except $3 pandemic pay. Subtract deductions and union dues. Come to nothing. Business doesn't stand behind workers Doesn't acknowledge work place injuries and ensure that WSIB rejects your claim. Tosses you away like garbage when injury prevents you from working. No longer an asset. No chance for promotion Everyone including office staff feel hawked over and work in an oppressive work environment. ONLY THE OWNERS MAKE MONEY. Rarely make over the poverty line

    Paid for time spent on orientation

    Cons

    Seniors for Seniors is a division of Spectrum. The company is incredibly disorganized and unprofessional. The different members of the staff do not communicate with each other. Management was unable to agree on who my supervisor was. Basic information was not communicated to me (client addresses, shift days/times, clients' health conditions) so that I could make a decision whether to take on a shift. Please do not waste your time.
