I have been working at Spectrum Health Companies (More than a year)

    Pros

Many opportunities to grow within the organization. Management cares about your success and fosters your career goals.

    Cons

Being decentralized throughout the state there can be miscommunication between locations.

I have been working at Spectrum Health Companies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Resident's are the only thing that keeps me here.

    Cons

Overworked and underpaid. Never in my career have I worked such a thanks job. The Administrator gossips about staff, is grossly inappropriate, as has no leadership skills. The administrative assistants sit on their phones Facebooking. Staffing is a mess. The nurses work 20 hour shifts plus 24/7 call because there is no structure. The Hha's are a joke. I'd never allow my worst enemy to be a resident here. Any staff that actually cares is run out by the lack of structure, lack of leadership, and "drama."

    Advice to Management

Get it together. There are too many "cooks in the kitchen" and none of them know how to make a simple sandwich.

We are very proud of the team we have at Brainerd Carefree Living. We work hard to make sure that we hire people who will love our residents. The staffing shortage that all businesses are currently... More

    Pros

Spectrum offers a great service to all residents and clients. Employees really care about what they do and that creates a rewarding culture.

    Cons

Multiple sites makes it difficult for all employees to feel connected.

    Pros

Coworkers were fantastic, they tried very hard to foster a place of positivity. It was nice to work at a facility that truly cared for their residents.

    Cons

Pay was not great for the amount of physical work and variety of tasks required. In this type of role, shift work is expected but would have been nicer to have a more consistent schedule.

    Pros

    Family orientated, team attitude, loyal

    Cons

Spreads across the state so from time to time you feel like you only get to talk to people on the phone. This being from a person in the billing office.

I worked at Spectrum Health Companies part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very friendly, upbeat and professional staff. Small facility (up to 80 clients). Excellent place to work if you thrive in chaos & can guess what may need to be done on any given day.

    Cons

No set outline of job duties, very whimsical and disorganized and rules always changing. On Call was awful; $10 stipend, generally on call for 3-4 days in a row. Having to cover the HHA shifts when call in's would happen when you are on call is downright brutal torture due to lack of sleep and constant interruptions. Anyone with a title thinks they run the place and can boss anyone around. Outdated computers that freeze up frequently.

    Advice to Management

Get organized! Have a set routine & duties. Treat your staff with respect, listen to their concerns. Update the computers.

I worked at Spectrum Health Companies (More than a year)

    Pros

The residents are great. Management is the worst. Nurses do zero patient care. Kitchen is locked up totally at 7 pm and residents can't even get a sandwich after that time.

    Cons

Aides are treated like they are garbage. Staff is doing the minimum amount of care and upper management does not care. Nurses have a closed door policy.
