I worked at Spectrum Health full-time

    Pros

Dedicated service lines committed to excellence in health care delivery.

    Cons

Top down management, starting literally at the top - it is an infectious culture among all management. Job description spoke of highly collaborative environment but there is no sense of team and virtually no "team" development from department management. Incredibly smart and talented staff managed like entry-level staff members. Screw up and get promoted; do well and you go forward without notice. Marketing department has a reputation which still has much to change before reputation changes. Advancement from within this department and system seem impossible - perhaps because of the internal reputation of the marketing communications department.

    Advice to Management

Take notice of the talent within your own department and tap into this valuable resource. As a communications department; COMMUNICATE.

I have been working at Spectrum Health part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This place has great benefits and really good staff (at least in my department). Anytime I've dealt with HR they've been wonderful.

    Cons

Lack of parking availability. Many times we have to park a few miles away and take the shuttle, but I work resource so it's always different. I also have class right after my shift, and they refused to help me out with some kind of parking arrangement, not even a temporary one.

    Advice to Management

Figure out some way to deal with employee parking as it is very unreliable. At times I've also been irritated at the cost of lunch. I realize it's pretty average, but I expect better affordability from a hospital.

    Pros

Robust Intern Program - assigned mentor and Manager. Great exposure to upper-level management as an intern. They make sure you know the business.

    Cons

The final intern presentation was just that - a presentation. It was a good way to interact with other interns but it was hard to manage all our different work schedules. Learned how to manage time!
