I worked at Spectrum Health full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A large organization with great potential to make a huge impact on the landscape of healthcare. Passionate about care of patients. The organization cares a lot about how it appears to Community.

    Cons

Middle management tends to be secretive and talk poorly about employees behind closed doors. Punitive culture. Work short staffed often.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent with employees. Be more forward thinking with staffing models. Listen to those who are doing the work and do some of the work alongside them.

I worked at Spectrum Health full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked alongside of some very talented nurses and CSR's.

    Cons

Toxic management. No people skills. Lack of caring for staff at basic level. Changed the rules to fit the need.

    Advice to Management

A bad manager can take a good staff and destroy it, causing the best employees to flee and the rest to lose all motivation.

I have been working at Spectrum Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    People are nice enough
    Get a few discounts

    Cons

You will always be short staffed never have what you need In house they only offer 1 raise per year and it is only about 30 cents no matter how good your review is. Half the equipment is busted and they claim no money for it but then open up 4 new locations then pull from our already short staff forcing people into mandatory overtime

    Advice to Management

Start paying marker rate and stop being so condescending too your workers most of us know how to do our jobs and apparently know it better then you with you not knowing how to cook or clean something or knowing the diets

I have been working at Spectrum Health part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I work on 6N and it's been a wonderful experience -- super helpful and caring staff, coworkers, charge nurses, nursing supervisors.

    Cons

Very, very strict on the employment policies. But the caring and helpful supervisors make up for that.

    Pros

Good benefits. If you are willing to seek out advice, there is always someone there to help you with whatever you need. The HR team is more helpful than anyone gives them credit for, you just need to use their services. Those who work in an office setting for Spectrum have a very comfortable job with great pay.

    Cons

Those who work the more menial jobs (Patient transport, environmental services, supply chain) get treated pretty badly by other employees. The pay is less than industry average for jobs in supply chain and nursing.

    Advice to Management

Pay employees enough that they can't just go across the street and make the same amount if they get fired, and they might last more than 3-6 months.

New management comes in and makes changes to processes that are working well, either to try to get that 1% better efficiency (at the cost of disgruntled employees and complete overhauls of systems that have been in place), or to try to prove their worth to a new company. Some of these work out well, but often they seem like a lot of work for either minimal gain, or, sometimes even a decline in efficiency and productivity.

Keep on staying ahead of the health care changes, grow and be the best

I have been working at Spectrum Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good co-workers, relatively low pressure, flexible work schedule

    Cons

heavy bureaucracy, cumbersome processes, below average compensation and opportunity for advancement

    Advice to Management

pay more attention to input from first tier personnel in all departments and clear obstacles out of their way so they can do real work.

Spectrum has the goal of becoming a nationally competitive healthcare provider but it will never meet that goal until it is willing to do the necessary work to become a nationally competitive employer.
