I have been working at Spectrum Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Small company environment in terms of entrepreneurial culture, personal access to management, ability to have an impact, and lack of bureaucracy. Compensation and benefits are highly competitive with industry standards.

    Cons

Some people may prefer more structure and guidance in terms of getting that work done and career development.

    Advice to Management

Management could potentially do more in terms of having a formal career development aspect to the performance evaluation and measurement process.

I have been working at Spectrum Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Overall positive atmosphere at the company. Many great team members in every department willing to help and move activities forward. If you can get out of the weeds it's a fun place to work.

Benefits are good for a small company and they have improved slowly over time.

Decent work life balance, but many are clearly overworked.

Good product pipeline with real promise after so many underachieving products.

    Cons

Consistent under staffing in critical areas (Medical, Regulatory) and slow to recruit replacements.

Very high turn over in Clinical as a result of CEO meddling too deep operationally and not letting the teams makes decisions. Poor staffing decisions by the CEO (Friends and Family Network) resulting in poor and inconsistent leadership. The best have left that group. There are some great new hires but senior leadership is missing in Clinical.

Leadership decisions are very emotionally driven rather than through detailed discussion and due diligence. Leadership wants a quick return and isn't willing to invest in many of the existing products.

    Advice to Management

Let the teams make decisions and support those decisions.

Focus on the big picture for existing products and allow the teams to create new opportunities for the products. Not everything can occur quickly.

Quit hiring your friends and family.

I have been working at Spectrum Pharmaceuticals full-time

    Pros

Good benefits - Competivite pay - executive management easily accessable - I've been working at spectrum for less than a year and it seems like they are doing what they can to make their employees happy. Management isn't perfect but it seems like they are trying to do the right thing

    Cons

No cons that I can recall thus far.

    Pros

Some fun people, and you get a regular paycheck

    Cons

CEO often tells staff they are replaceable (except of course himself). Management only cares about stock price, and tries to convince employees stock price will change dramatically. People who put the company before themselves and their family are rewarded and praised. Culture is toxic and does not support people who work hard. Many people show up and do no work, while others are blamed for not working hard enough.

    Advice to Management

CEO needs to leave. Upper Management needs to think about their employees as people. Stop talking about the stock price, it doesn't convince employees of anything, nor does it motivate us to work harder.

    Pros

The company -- all of the staff from the CEO all the way through the organization -- are committed to do what's right for patients. And to doing what's right in general (eg, high ethical position).

The company is fiscally conservative while still understanding that you have to spend money (wisely) to make money. The pay isn't what you might get at big pharma but you get all the benefits of working for a small company (no bureaucracy, quick & fact-based decision-making, etc.) with the security of a company that has a healthy revenue stream.

Management truly care about the staff.

    The pipeline is excellent.

The people are exceptional and the staff is highly diverse - unlike I've ever seen and I think that makes it a stronger and better place to work. Transparency is important and staff retention is a priority.

Free breakfast / bring your dog to work on Friday is a fun thing.

    Cons

It's a virtual company so sometimes it feels hard to "own" the work. Telecommuting is not an option - reflective the CEO's philosophy that you need to be present to be effective -- and that might be a negative for some people (but not for me).

    Advice to Management

Continue to reward and value the hard-working staff who uphold the values and ideals of the company.

I have been working at Spectrum Pharmaceuticals full-time

    Pros

Decent location in Orange County. Fridays are casual and you can bring your dog into work.

    Cons

Lack of processes companywide. Salary is on the low end, and the benefits are low to mid-range. Very few people stay here for very long, and they lose the knowledge and information they had.

    Advice to Management

Work harder to keep people here instead out touting the high turn over rate. Keep better records and maintain information and data from people who leave.
