    I worked at Speedway LLC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Lots of responsibility and autonomy. It's possible to be hired as a Leadership Program Participant directly out of college and be responsible for 12-14 stores with around 120-150 employees within one year. Company car included, choose your own hours (within reason). Very good 401k matching and health insurance.

    Cons

    Must be willing to relocate as a district manager in order to promote within the company.
    You get 0 weeks of vacation until you reach one full year of employment. Then shortly after you receive 1 week then 2 weeks; at 5 years you receive 3 weeks.

    Advice to Management

    Consider how you may be affecting the overall customer experience when focusing on minimizing expenses.

    I worked at Speedway LLC (Less than a year)

    Pros

    The benefits were great. 401k company match.

    Cons

    The Region Manager has no clue what goes on. New DM's think they are to good to help when needed. Training is a joke. They go through help like water. Recruiting Center is a joke. If you have been with company for years they will demote you because you make to much. The stress of passing an inspection is unbareable. If you are a butt kisser you can advance.

    Advice to Management

    Get your crap together. IF IT WASN'T FOR THE PEOPLE ON THE FRONT LINE, YOU PEOPLE WOULD NOT HAVE A JOB!!! That comment was for the Region Manager and District Managers!!!

    Pros

    You get to enjoy some very nice customers that can make your night. Good 401k packages and you get paid weekly.

    Cons

    No breaks unless you smoke, lack of good and helpful management. No team work normally one person has to do all the work because everyone is lazy.

    Advice to Management

    You need to listen to employee complaints when they arise. Upper management needs to be seen more, and they need to keep their GMs in check. You are lossing good hard working employees because of some really bad GMs trying to cover their butts. I know because Ive worked at 4 stores with 5 GMs in 1.4 years.

    Pros

    The pay and benefits were acceptable.

    Cons

    The position requires ten-hour shift with no breaks whatsoever (unless you smoke cigarettes which seems to be encouraged). There is no work-life balance. You are scheduled to open and close in the same week. That means that you work 5am to 3pm part of the week and 3pm to 11pm the other part of the week. There is no way to have a healthy sleep schedule swinging back and forth in the same week. They are always short-staffed and pay minimum wage to entry level employees. I constantly received complaints that the level of responsibility required from these employees vs. they pay they received was absurd. As a result there was high turnover, which meant I got to pick up extra shifts and work even more.

    Advice to Management

    Realize that work-life balance is necessary to retain good employees. I was offer my own store, but took a lower paying position elsewhere because I could not spend time with my family.

    Pros

    Some of the customers can be nice. Staying busy helps the time fly by.

    Cons

    The work to pay ratio is way off. The expectations from mgt. and customers are completely unrealistic for minimum wage. Even finding out what district managers make was shocking to me. Lots of "stuff" to put up with on a daily basis for very little return.

    Benefits, regular customers, meeting new people.

    No room for advancement if you are hard working, honest, and ethical. It is sad to see a region make a whole company look so bad.

    Corporate needs to open their eyes to certain areas before there is no honest person left. Look at training and development, and value your people.
