    Pros

Fair wage, best Health insurance in town. divers environment with ample opportunities to advance one's career.

    Cons

Can be a hostile work place with a low team morale and very poor communication between workers and management leadership. No enthusiasm or sense of value for the Spirit employees is affirmed.

    Advice to Management

Give support, confidence, or hope to (someone). Encourage, hearten, cheer up, uplift, inspire, motivate, spur on, stir, stir up, fire up, stimulate, need more words of affirmation.

I have been working at Spirit AeroSystems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The pay is pretty decent, the benefits package is also what you'd expect to find it a large company which is pretty good, the health insurance is good for now, about half of the managers are really great, about half of your coworkers will be really great, facilities are decent and some of the newer buildings or recently renovated buildings are super nice. Hourly workers have a union. Debatably more job security than other aircraft companies in Wichita. Pride of being able to say you work at Spirit.

    Cons

The pay is decent, but not that great. Young people with little to no experience are getting hired at between 12 and $16 an hour, and even older people with multiple decades of experience are getting hired as low as $17-$20 an hour, and considering the health insurance premiums are increasing by double or triple digit percentages every year (premiums literally doubled year over year in 2016) the pay is simply not keeping up. And by next union contract our health insurance will be almost certainly cut down to the bare minimum. There are quite a lot of bad managers at Spirit, they will expect you to make way more hours than you reasonably can do but still expect your quality to be perfect, and when something goes wrong they point the finger. Although the new CEO Tom Gentile seems like a good guy and is making some really good decisions for Spirit, middle and lower management are still absolutely toxic. And about half of the coworkers you work with every day have toxic personalities and will try to stab you in the back every chance they get or TRY to get you in trouble with management over some completely made up issue just to make themselves look good. What I'm saying is the culture at Spirit in many buildings in areas is absolutely toxic. A couple buildings and areas have a good culture, but not most of the facilities.

    Advice to Management

I know it's easier said than done, but you really need to clean house of middle and lower management. Thanks to Tom Gentile upper management is now respectable and productive organization; but middle and lower management need a thorough purge. I recommend sending out surveys to all hourly and salary employees asking specifically about their managers. Because many of these managers not only have a zero management skills, but are in fact counterproductive and adding net negative value to Spirit. It's like they say, a bad manager can take a good group of employees and make them useless

I have been working at Spirit AeroSystems (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, appears plenty of room for advancement and change of career paths within the organization. Strong stability and globally recognized as the worlds leading Tier 1 supplier.

    Cons

Typical issues with such a large company on slow moving progress, bureaucracy and lots of approvals.

    Advice to Management

Spirit is currently trying to identify their culture and brand. The current momentum is a nice change and needs to be lead from the top down to affect change. Don't expect change overnight as it will take time.

    Pros

Best supply chain organization in the aerospace industry. Many qualified professionals. Established procedures and practices driving for complete supply solutions. Most procurement-related activities are standardized and take advantage of supplier full lead times.

    Cons

Experienced, older employees are being shown the door. Newer buyers and materials managers are made to do so much more they do not have time for strategy. The organization is shrinking but taking on more workload with less say in decision-making. Upper management sets strategy and policy but does not factor in input from execution level employees, so solutions being put in place are not based on current real-world needs or solutions. Sadly, cost reduction is the biggest driver and ends up winning every argument.

    Advice to Management

Conduct regular staff meetings and periodic planning / strategy meetings that include hourly and first-level managers' input as part of the decision-making processes.

I worked at Spirit AeroSystems full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Very good pay and benefits and very good sick leave days you build up very quickly. Plus a bonus at the end of every year two weeks off paid. Plant shuts down for Christmas. So awesome

    Cons

Management has always been a problem with switching them out and moving them very often. With that problems or tasks don't get resolved or looked upon like it was with past managers. Should be more focus on keeping them in place for long term outcomes.

    Advice to Management

Management is the number one concern our problem like i stated in the CONS section of this review. But an awesome company to work for. More people should look into going to school at WATC for classes they have and your guaranteed a job interview with SPIRIT right after you graduate

I have been working at Spirit AeroSystems as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people to work with; a lot of people with years of knowledge who love to pass that info along. Does not have the volume of employees as some larger facilities so you learn a lot about a multitude of areas.

    Cons

Hard to get on as a permanent employee of you come in as a contractor. Thus you don't get paid for the holiday shutdowns, sick days, etc...

    Advice to Management

Give contract employees more room to grow within the company by hiring them on as permanent employees after a probationary period.

    Pros

    Experienced people to work with.
    Good benefits and decent pay.
    Flexible 40 hr weeks.
Generally relaxed environment to work in.

    Cons

10 changes in management in 4.5 years.
Some managers totally uninterested in what our group does.
Budget is always tight (so no internal projects) but you get reprimanded when you charge overhead because all tasks are complete.

    Advice to Management

Not funding anything doesn't actually save money unless you provide something else for people to do...
