I worked at Sport Chalet (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the nicest coworkers I ever had.
Everyone was flexible when different department heads and employees couldn't come to work.
They were very accommodating to my schedule.
The discounts and benefits were nice.

    Cons

Pay was rough but the environment and benefits made it worth it.
It was difficult to cover other departments when people didn't show up to work because customers expect you to know everything about the department you are in.

    Advice to Management

Train the employees more on other departments so they are able to accommodate all customers better.

I worked at Sport Chalet part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great discounts and access to sporting good equipment.

    Cons

Minimal paths for advancement. Management pushes associates for higher sales but don't provide training on customer engagement or value props on closing deals.

    Advice to Management

Put more effort into training local management. I remember the regional manager coming in and barking orders, never did he once explain why. As soon as he left all the employees went back to doing what they were previously doing because no one provided training.

I worked at Sport Chalet part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, always a welcome working atmosphere, somewhat flexible hours, allowing a great deal of working knowledge about a variety of sports.

    Cons

Not much room for advancement, turnover is somewhat high in both associate and management. Towards the end, you could tell it was more about money rather than customer service and employee knowledge, which was opposite when the company started.

    Advice to Management

Care more about your employees and not so much about the almighty dollar. If you take care of your employees, everything else will fall into place.
