    I worked at Sportsman's Guide full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    The company was the best of 3 worlds, Internet sales, Catalog / phone sales and they had a brick and mortar store. Had been a family run business for over 40 years very well established growing company.,

    Cons

    Company sold to another and later completely changed out all management and supervisors, New management drastically changed the way things were done including dropping catalogs and are having disastrous results. Sales failing, big layoffs and more.

    Advice to Management

    Sometimes how you were doing things was still a better way and being in-flexible
    is your road to ruin.

    Pros

    Not many pros. The immediate supervisors were ok for the most part. The best thing is the employee discount for products and if your work is perfect for a whole month you might win a store gift card.

    Cons

    Upper management does not care about it's employees. Ideas brought to them are ignored. In one case I was demoted for bringing up a politically incorrect idea when I was put on the safety committee. You get written up for just about every mistake you make, no matter how small. Sometime it took less time to correct than to be written up. Minorities absolutely have a longer leash. Lots of people with many years there have been let go in favor of temps. When Northern Tool brought them everything went downhill, including the company symbol. If you are not a yes man you have no chance to go anywhere with this company.

    Advice to Management

    Treating people like humans and not like property would be a good start but I doubt if there are humans in the HR dept. that can do that.

    Communicate with your employees. A clear plan is important to getting the job done right the first time.

    I have been working at Sportsman's Guide part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Casual dress, occasional pizza and lame prizes. Nope. That's about it

    Cons

    Hired to work part time hrs: 1pm -7pm 4 days a week weekdays & 8am - 4:30p. Saturdays seasonal. I now work mandatory OT six days a week. Micro-management. This place bites. Pay is 12.00/hr. Terrible.

    Advice to Management

    Pay stinks. Hours stink. Outdated computer program sets call center up for failure - not to mention the lazy warehouse workers who constantly screw up the orders.
