    Pros

    Some good people, The Discount.

    Cons

Anything and Everything about management, Very Top Heavy - way too many managers, Communication between departments .... lacking. The company is a mess. I left on my terms.

The more you do the less your noticed, its backwards. Stay Away

    Advice to Management

Reward the employee's grinding it out. Stop rewarding less productive people.

I worked at Sportsman's Guide full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Had great history of turn-around with hardworking and knowledgable employees.

    Cons

Executive team has made bad decisions that have cost the company profit, sales and the experience that made the company special in the market place.

    Advice to Management

Bring in new CEO who can see what made this company special and work to bring it back. Customers will respond to honest deals that are of good quality.

    I worked at Sportsman's Guide full-time

    Pros

I was with Sportsman's' Guide for many years. I worked very hard and was passionate about my job and company. The Guide for all its faults, was a family of people who cared deeply about their customers, service to them and each other. Good pay, benefits and old fashioned hard work. This was once a very fine american company that cared about it's employees.

    Cons

It is not the same company it once was! This is not even a company anymore, it is a compilation of outsourced vendors who couldn't give a crap about anything but their own profits. Northern Tool bought Sportsman's and totally destroyed peoples lives. They literally outsourced every department. People with 10, 15, 20 years of work were let go and replaced with people from temporary agencies.

    Advice to Management

You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

I worked at Sportsman's Guide (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Excellent co-workers, Good Vacation package.

    Cons

When Northern Tool bought them a good company went to hell. they got rid of all the dedicated employees that helped build them and stuck with them during the years when wages and profits were very low. They used to care about employees, now all they care about is the almighty dollar. after almost 20 years of service I my department was out sourced. Upper management is so afraid about their jobs they will screw their own mother. the founder Gary Olen must be having nightmares about what is happening to the great company he built.

    Advice to Management

REMEMBER THE GOLDEN RULE, IF PROFITS FALL DO YOU THINK NORTHERN WILL KEEP YOU? HOPE YOU CAN PAY FOR THAT MILLION DOLLAR HOME WITH YOUR UNEMPLOYMENT CHECK.
MAYBE FINGERHUT WILL HIRE YOU BACK.

I have been working at Sportsman's Guide full-time

    Pros

There must be some good things about working at the Sportsman's Guide. I just can't remember any. So I talked to some friends and I guess the food trucks were nice.

    Cons

If you're looking for a place to work where leadership is asleep at the wheel, and where fear and intimidation are the most-loved management tools, then look no further!

    Advice to Management

Clean house from top to bottom.

I worked at Sportsman's Guide full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

SG used to be a great place to work. The people in my department and around the company were a genuine pleasure to work with. Now, there's only a handful of people with tenure left.

    Cons

Loyalty and dedication won't get you anywhere here. There is zero job security. I'd rate Jay Berlin, the CEO, but he was let go as well.

    Advice to Management

To give advice at this point is futile. I will say that Northern Tool should reconsider their advertising about how they help the community. Letting several long time employees go does not bode well for the surrounding area.

I have been working at Sportsman's Guide part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Casual dress, occasional pizza and lame prizes. Nope. That's about it

    Cons

Hired to work part time hrs: 1pm -7pm 4 days a week weekdays & 8am - 4:30p. Saturdays seasonal. I now work mandatory OT six days a week. Micro-management. This place bites. Pay is 12.00/hr. Terrible.

    Advice to Management

Pay stinks. Hours stink. Outdated computer program sets call center up for failure - not to mention the lazy warehouse workers who constantly screw up the orders.
