I worked at SpotCo full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Generous on snacks, young and vibrant staff. A will from management to have a foster a community.

    Cons

Too many unqualified people get elevated and promoted as they tend to be yes sayers, creating the obvious lack of critical outspoken counter weight. More and more decision by committee.

    Advice to Management

Take a long view of where you want to be in 2 years, make the hard choice of how to get there and make the restructure to be that agency.
Stop promoting internally when nobody is qualified, and hire real talent of those specific positions.
Lastly, learn what a mission statement is.

I worked at SpotCo full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Beautiful open plan office setting with fun perks like snacks, birthday celebrations etc. There's a great variety of shows to work on as well. It comes down to the people - smart, funny, and passionate about the work.

    Cons

It can be quite cliquish depending on the department you're in. Frequent episodes of last minute scrambling - which is not uncommon for the industry - but it would be easier to deal with if the "why are we doing this" was clearer. You end up feeling like a cog in the machine.

    Advice to Management

Give more of a voice to lower level staff. Foster more learning for your employees. Consider the long term effects on your employees of the constant "yes" culture.

I worked at SpotCo full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - The biggest pro would be the people of Spot. They are creative, passionate, thought leaders and have an undying love for Broadway which results in the company consistent quality work
    - Snacks are provided daily! Coffee is ready by 10am, and the building offers great food perks now and then. On birthdays, engagements and last day's for employees, the company honors you with toasts and thoughtful cards/gifts. They really care about the personal success of each employee
    - Beautiful open space office.
    - Paid way below market for all the work required

    Cons

    - Spotco is undergoing a restructure and like all transitions, it's going to get worst before it gets better
    - Digital advertising is not valued or understood the way it should be as it will soon be the future of this company
    - Bad communication between departments (which they are slowly improving on)
    - As a whole the company tends to over -promise to clients without full understanding of the full development of a digital project
    - No real leadership within the digital department, so could be looked at as a con or a positive because there's much freedom, as long as projects get done in a timely manner

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees and stop being cliquish within leadership.
Understand the digital world and it's importance to the company in terms of growth
Offer classes, programs or conferences for employees to attend to learn in their field
Slow down and stop to assess what's truly needed

    Pros

Working on Broadway shows, nice offices, ok pay for theater

    Cons

Only interested in the top 10 people remaining the top ten people. No interest in hiring interesting candidates or growing their current employees to be successful

    Advice to Management

Hire more creatively and trust the next crop of advertisers

I worked at SpotCo full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

One of the best things about SpotCo is the brilliant, friendly and hilarious people that work there. Also tons of free theater tickets and chances to rub elbows with celebs. The upper management seems to be transparent and genuinely want what's best for the employees.

    Cons

Some of the work can feel a bit repetitive since it's advertising for a lot of similar types of clients. Pay could be better but benefits are good.

    Advice to Management

Company loyalty could be better rewarded with salary increases. Career development initiatives aren't utilized as best they can be.

I worked at SpotCo full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Doing Broadway related work is both rewarding and exciting. Since the tones of the shows are so vast, so is the scope of what the company gets to create. Plus being in the world of NYC arts and culture is great. The perks at this company are really nice, though not as common as they had been in the past.

    Cons

When I was there I saw lots of preferential treatment for certain employees. The people in charge played favorites and didn't seem to realize or care how obvious it was. Lots of office politics.

I worked at SpotCo full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

SpotCo offers a rare blend of interesting, engaging work with passionate, talented coworkers. Senior leadership truly cares for the well-being of it's employees - it's clear they strive to be as transparent as possible and lead with a communicative and human-to-human approach. There are many perks - theater tickets, events, treats, parties. And if you're open to it, you'll find great friends, as well. It's the perfect fit for those who work hard/play hard and definitely a dream job for Broadway fans.

    Cons

The workload can be heavy and with passionate employees comes hard working employees - emails after hours are common. Pay may be on the lower scale for certain roles but given the interesting work and fun environment, it's a trade off that can be worth making.

    Advice to Management

Consider leadership/mentor program for more senior employees, to help continue their career development.
