CI Department
May 5, 2023 - Curriculum and Instruction SpecialistRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Our department is committed to equipping teachers and administrators with the most current tools and curriculum to ensure equitable education for all students regardless of their economics status or prior difficulties. This district truly believes that every child has the opportunity to attend a technical school, 2 year or 4 year college.
Cons
Nothing. This district is always staying up to date to ensure best practice education.

Two Districts in One
May 2, 2023 - English Teacher in Houston, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Spring Branch includes some of the richest residential real-estate in the metropolitan area, providing plenty of revenue for the district. Our pockets are deeper than many nearby districts, and the PTA is active and well-funded in the half of the district with well-heeled families. The other half of the district, serving students from lower-earning families, don't enjoy the PTA financial support, but they do get Title 1 funds. This really is the story of two districts in one, with wide gaps in student expectations.
Cons
All positions on our school board are elected at-large rather than in single-member districts. As a result, the rich white folks south of Interstate 10, which slices the district nearly in half, dominate the board. Literally half of the parents and property owners in the district have little to no say in how the district operates. It should be against the law, but it isn't, apparently. As with most of the country, a powerful minority holds sway.

Fine Arts Department is Well Respected
May 8, 2023 - Elementary Art Teacher in Houston, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I feel great support from fellow art teachers. I also get the space from my admin to do the type of projects I want to do with my students with no micromanaging.
Cons
As an art teacher, I dodge a lot of the every-day cons of being a general education teacher. But I will say, behavior support is almost nonexistent. At least at my school. If you can’t manage behavior 100% on your own, you won’t be getting much support from admin. But sadly this seems to be a current problem nation wide.

Great people. Educators who care
May 11, 2023 - Marketing CoordinatorRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Educators generally care about what is the best for the students. The superintendent Jennifer Blaine is the best in the business.
Cons
It will have its cons like any other workplace.

Pros
At Spring Oaks Middle School the administration is great to their teachers.
Cons
There is sometimes a disconnect in what is expected and what is realistic.

Pros
Students are amazing. Students want to learn. Very little behaviors.
Cons
No DEI training. Just google the lawsuits for discrimination and understand that the culture is exactly why the district is being sued. Gate keeping the “ SBISD” way and if you’re a person of colored hired here. You will be required to “ learn how things work” meaning stay in your place and lane. It’s hiring of people of color is to give the idea of diversity. However, there are no MCL’s of color. Leadership is interesting. I observed how the janitors of color where treated differently and the one AP of color. If you can smile and bare these micro aggressions it’s a great place. However, overtime this is taxing to the psyche. Choose peace.
