I worked at Spring Branch Independent School District (More than a year)

    Pros

Wonderful benefits, close to downtown Houston

    Cons

This ISD has more than 58 language groups, some of which have yet to be identified! We reside in a heavy refugee population. It is impossible for a teacher to be academically successful, especially if you work in a school on the north side of I-10.

    Advice to Management

Grow a backbone, a spine. Support your teachers, especially in parent/teacher conferences. Too many of you are cowards.

I worked at Spring Branch Independent School District full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The staff is great. They're hard working, and they care about the kids.

    Cons

Administrators tend to put a lot of pressure on teachers to miraculously make low socioeconomic students pass STAAR. It makes for a tense atmosphere. Some of the principals were terrible to work for. Must stay to provide tutorials beyond contract hours.

    Advice to Management

Top down management doesn't work when you want teachers invested for the long term. Teachers need flexibility to authentically teach students.

I have been working at Spring Branch Independent School District (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I enjoy driving cdl transportation. I am a workaholic, also helping others is my specialty. Getting along with coworkers makes it easier for me and my job. I follow directions well.

    Cons

Working as a part-time worker is sometimes okay for some people that don't need money. But I myself would love to work 8 to 12 hours daily, then I would know I've accomplished what I've achieved.

    Advice to Management

My advise to management is keeping being a great manager. There's nothing wrong with management. I couldn't complain about something that's put together.

    Pros

Great teammates and the district has pretty good technology.

    Cons

At times, the district is not very organized and does not seem to share the same vision as the schools.

    Advice to Management

Not many avenues to advance in your career.

I worked at Spring Branch Independent School District as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy to get along with staff and helpful students. Always variety.

    Cons

Lack of respect for certified substitute teachers from staff.
Regular staff - not the most honest coworkers.

    Advice to Management

HR staff - too much hubris and arrogance, no follow through, painfully slow.
Sub job- 2-3 principal refs for this job is asking too much.
