I have been working at Squar Milner full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I find everyone from new staff to partners to be accessible and friendly. I have had several non-job related conversations with managers and partners, and found them to be supportive - made time for me. This is important to me. I also like the mentoring program and that the firm is trying to improve it. The firm has grown a lot and it appears that this will continue.

    Cons

Some of the benefits could be better (no 401 (k) match).

    Squar Milner Response

    November 22, 2016Principal

Managing Partner’s response: I understand why this is important to our employees’ long-term savings plans and accordingly, we have made the decision to match a percentage of our employee’s contributions to the Firm’s 401 (k) plan effective January 1, 2017.

I have been working at Squar Milner full-time

    Pros

I started five years ago and have been promoted and learned a lot to better my career. We take great firm trips and the firm really cares about the staff and them mastering their skills to be the best in the industry

    Cons

Lots of long hours, but it's worth the payoff

I have been working at Squar Milner full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Growing fast (acquiring more firms), which gives lots of opportunity to those inside to grow within the company.

    Cons

The company offers compensation, benefits, and a cultural atmosphere at low end of average at best within the accounting industry. Upper management wants to be able to say everything is average compared to the market, so they offer the bare minimum to fall in that category but tell employees they have the best of everything. (look around, it is not true). It's all about partners making the $$$, not be the best in the...

I have been working at Squar Milner full-time

    Pros

The company is growing and has a lot of motivated people.

    Cons

Every firm has politics and gossips. This company takes it to another level. A partner here are deeply responsible for creating this culture because the person simply does not care about employees and always trash them. Also beware of some of long time staff here. They spread completely false rumors about newcomers and make life miserable. Some of admin staff here are extremely disrespectful and bossy. they don't get...

    Advice to Management

It is ok to focus on growth, but do not forget about people who make it possible, people who do the most of dirty works. People feel worthless when not appreciated.

I have been working at Squar Milner full-time for less than a year

    Pros

It provides a luxurious work environment.........if you have an office. The mints at the front desk are great, on your way in, and on your way out because those are the only times you'll get to enjoy them!

    Cons

Gossip, politics, and drama. Toxic for your health. Absolutely no work/life balance is provided, which includes the expectations of 70hr work weeks. Horrible health benefits offered, barely any contributions to a 401k, and company won't match your own contribution(s). Truth be told, everyone hates one another there, unless they're part of a cultural or familial clique. The people who work hard, get little to no...

    Advice to Management

Be HUMAN Resources not INHUMAN Resources. Your employees should matter to you, and not by you protecting yourself and setting the presidence that we do not matter. Don't pretend to make your employees feel like everyone is family and cared for when you treat us like trash. You're the epitome of LA LA Land. FAKE FAKE FAKE! I actually feel worse for the clients of this company like, more than employees like myslef....

I worked at Squar Milner full-time

    Pros

Just like every other company there are some great people that work at Squar Milner that make for a pleasurable working environment. Starting salary was pretty decent from what I recall.

    Cons

Just like every other company there are also some people you would rather not interact with and avoid at all costs, unfortunately some of those people are pretty high up in the organization. They churn through employees from all sides, not just external auditors/tax associates. The biggest disappointment for me was that I had left a decent job to work at Squar Milner under the impression of what the job would be, the...

    Advice to Management

The company has been quite successful with the standard CPA business model, so keep doing what you're doing. Wishful thinking here but try to be a little more honest when interviewing prospective candidates.

I have been working at Squar Milner full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Where else can you receive an almost free trip at the end of busy season to locations such as New Orleans, Miami Beach, Puerta Vallarta and Cabo! Yes, we work hard but we play much harder!. And you can bring a guest at an additional expense. The Managing Partner/CEO is big on everyone getting to know people from the other offices and this annual trip is one of the forums where this is possible. Good work is recognized...

    Cons

Like with most companies there are the usual cons - politics, cliques, gossip. Onboarding needs improvement - too many gaps on how things are done/handled. No company match on 401k.
