I have been working at Square full-time for more than a year

    Pros

We get the best of both worlds in the Atlanta remote office: all the benefits of working for an established company AND the relaxed atmosphere of a small office where everyone each other. I look forward to coming to work everyday and working with top notch software engineers. Our office works on a diverse set of projects including the core Register app for Android and iOS, the web dashboard used by merchants, and multiple backend services in Java, Go, and Ruby.

    Cons

Working in a remote office requires us to be proactive about keeping in touch with people and projects in the SF headquarters.

    Advice to Management

Remember to balance "table stakes" features with the ambitious bold bets that differentiate Square from our competitors.

I have been working at Square full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are a lot of great engineers at Square. There are also a lot of hard problems to solve. Hence, there are ample learning opportunities. Taking initiative to solve problems is encouraged, so you can fairly easily grow into the role you want. It's a fast paced environment with "real" problems.

    Cons

The company has grown a lot quickly. Some projects and teams have been launched and then cut. However, Square's execs do a good job of identifying issues and course-correcting. There's a decent balance between bottom up and top down decision making.

I have been working at Square full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Move fairly quickly here at work. Solve interesting distributed systems problems. I've been at google, other similar startups, and other non-sfbay companies. Square is my favorite because of the real problems we are solving, the focus on design and building the right thing and helping merchants. The upside if we succeed is very big - everyone in the world does commerce daily - we want to make that better. Worked here a long time as an engineer before trying management. Engineering managers are all engineers, which is a very good sign.

    Cons

Salary is lower than google, but that's what you'd expect when you trade equity for cash.
