I worked at St. Ann's Home & School

    Pros

Nice people. Nice environment. A lot of really committed co-workers. A wonderful place to work and feel a part of something providing good in the world.

    Cons

Could benefit from thinking a little bit more progressively and investing in their providers more deeply. But mostly it was a wonderful place to work and a place many people dedicate their careers and lives.

    Advice to Management

Be more involved with your staff and providers. Be more engaged with what is happening in the world around you. Be willing to take chances on new ideas and novel treatment. Change starts at the top.

I worked at St. Ann's Home & School full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great experience learning how to work with different disabilities and behavior management

    Cons

Those in charge at St. Ann's treat loyal employees terribly. They see friendships between staff as a threat and will actively work to split them up. They will dramatically change your working conditions/job without any conversation about it- then gaslight you when you are upset. And God forbid you give your notice- they will make your life a living hell.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like human beings.

I have been working at St. Ann's Home & School

    Pros

Great community. Support is there when things get difficult. Fun activities with the kids. Staff try to help the kids be successful.

    Cons

Pay is low. Schedule is tough. You have to work weekends, holidays, and overnights. Kids behaviors can be difficult.

    Advice to Management

Split shifts, set overnight staff and day staff. Increase pay for the staff providing care for the kids every day.

I worked at St. Ann's Home & School

    Pros

Teaching and mentoring a population of students with severe emotional and behavioral issues. Seeing how these troubled children respond to one's guidance.

    Cons

Very, very formal and strict environment. Watch how you act and what you say.

    Advice to Management

Be a bit more forgiving to staff. Do not interrogate when a mistake has been made regarding protocol.

I have been working at St. Ann's Home & School full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Helping kids who come from a tough and challenging background. You can work as much overtime as you want. You save money on food.

    Cons

The HOURS + PAY OMG. The hours at this job are ridiculous. You are lucky if you get less than a 12 hour shift and once a week you will work an 18-24 hour shift. Every other week you can't sleep on the 24 hours shift. They call is the "All Awake" shift. You're required to work no less than 48 hours and sometimes you get more hours without asking. The only way to make any money as a child care counselor for this... company is to work 75+ hours a week (basically live there). Some people I know work close to 100 hours a week. It's ridiculous. I seriously do not recommend anyone to apply if you want a life.

    Advice to Management

Raise the pay for Child Care Counselors to at least $15hr. The turnover rate a ridiculous.

I have been working at St. Ann's Home & School

    Pros

Working with a surprisingly overabundant of troubled youths who come from parents who are not involved, who can't take of them, abusive situations, drugs, learning disabilities, etc... Your heart goes out to them and you want to help.

    Cons

Can be stressful, long nontraditional hours, very low pay, employee turnover rate is high.

    Advice to Management

The low pay makes it nearly impossible to survive financially. Can't expect to retain employees.
