I worked at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay is much higher than other LI hospitals. You will learn a lot. Always able to pick up overtime and extra shifts. Management is kind and flexible.

    Cons

Aides are often short staffed. There's a nursing home on property and it is affiliated with several other long term care facilities so the patient load is often heavy. No restraint hospital meaning there is a lot of 1:1's (can also be a pro for picking up overtime).

    Advice to Management

Hire more nursing assistants, increase the number of aides required for each floor as the patient load is often extremely heavy.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Good pay and can get away with just about anything!

    Cons

Terrible management, unit nurses often leave patients calling for help, HIPAA violations, you gotta know someone to get in or move up

    Advice to Management

Patient saftey and satisfaction should be #1. Many departments joke you can get away with anything and you really can. Open your eyes.
