    Pros

It's rewarding to work in healthcare, and St. Charles is one of the better employers in central Oregon. Most employees are good people.

    Cons

St. Charles is struggling with how to manage itself, and senior management often makes decisions that are not supported by sound logic and collaboration. They made an attempt to acknowledge this by hiring a process improvement consultant, and measuring employee engagement. However, both of those efforts have fallen short in showing sincere respect for those doing the work. At first sign of declining engagement scores, St. Charles abandoned that program. Many employees saw this as a betrayal of their commitment to the workforce.

    Advice to Management

Directors and above need to listen to those that are doing the work. Focus on quality and SINCERE respect for the worker, instead of the shallow goals of eliminating waste and defects. Press on with A3 thinking, and it will find/fix the problems that you are struggling with. Hold directors accountable for employee engagement,

I worked at St Charles Health Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits:. Medical, Dental, Life Insurance, Sort & Long term diability

    Cons

Promoted unqualified non-exempt to supervisory positions, department culture was as if working with high school women who were gossip queens, don't know how to interact with colleagues from out of state, cliques.

    Advice to Management

Promote qualified staff to supervisory by requiring to be interviewed by panel of management to make sure they have the correct qualifications so promotions do not happen based on a director's favouritism. Test all non-exempt staff on same software along with requiring staff to keep up with skills as required for positions. Share the love of job duties not overloading some based on old timers not having skillset to meet current job tasks.

I have been working at St Charles Health Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great work location in a good community.
Opportunities to positively impact patient lives still exist.
Many frontline staff genuinely have patient care in focus.

    Cons

Management is often absent and or unqualified.
Employees are being fired, bought out, and simply just walking away.
Poor communication within departments and between facilities.
Bad personal remain while skilled workers come and go.
Department wide resistance to innovation, accountability, and knowledge sharing.

    Advice to Management

I am witnessing what was once a great organization slowly die due to poor management. The executive level staff and many mid-level managers are either incompetent, or complicit in the wasteful spending, poor performance, and bad practices within our departments.

With paid board positions and excessive executive salaries all 'leaders' seem content to standby and collect while we sail this ship into it's mediocre demise, or future acquisition post Epic bankruptcy, whichever comes first.

I do not expect any of the board members are willing to rock the boat and risk their benefits in an attempt to change the status quo. At the end of the day the executives and board members are going to be alright, patients and staff be damned.

Our patients and caregivers deserve better then this.

    Pros

Good benefits. That's the only positive I can think of.

    Cons

They constantly are changing things for employees no matter how long they've been in place or how unfair employees think it is. The ONLY thing that matters to SCHS is their budget. Instead of cutting the executives ridiculous salaries, they take from the already paid lower-than-average employee. They're ridiculous.

    Advice to Management

Quit taking from the "little guy" to deal with YOUR budgeting issues. SCHS has the highest costs in Oregon for patients and the lowest wages, but yet still can't figure out their budget. Hmm....🤔
