I worked at St. Cloud State University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It was very convenient to work where I was attending school. My job as an undergraduate research assistant was in my field of study (Biotechnology) and gave me invaluable experience that helped me land my first job before I'd even finished all my classes. I loved being able to spend more time on campus and be more involved as well.

    Cons

Pay is minimum wage, but that didn't bother me and I didn't expect anything more. There were limits to the number of hours I could work which had to be considered when starting experiments but that was also not that big of a deal.

    Advice to Management

Please continue to offer undergraduate research!! I had a great time, learned a ton, and was able to gain valuable work experience.

I worked at St. Cloud State University part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The department I worked in was very flexible. They allowed me to choose my own schedule, and I was able to take time off when I had a final or midterm.

    Cons

Student workers do not make very much, or receive benefits.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up. The work study positions are great for students.

I worked at St. Cloud State University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Learnt customer service, great co-workers, interesting work and good supervisors. It is very rewarding work, as you get to help students, faculty and staff get through their technology difficulties.

    Cons

Upper management does not plan for the future problems and scrambles for quick solutions (usually budget cuts). Student workers do not get paid a fair wage,

    Advice to Management

Anticipate problems and issues that can arise in the future and plan for them accordingly. For the SCSU management, sudden budget cuts and micro-management are not healthy. Please develop a vision that is compatible with the future circumstances and develop goals and communicate them to everybody involved.
