I have been working at St. Dominic's full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Christian faith-based hospital. Non-managing staff are the worker bees, with not much support from management. Employees are like family. Great people in the trenches.

    Cons

Honesty, Fairness, and Loyalty are no longer the norm. With the changing of the guard from Dominican Sisters run business to dollars and nonsense, staff are often over worked or limited in assistance.

    Advice to Management

Think of other once great businesses like WorldCom and Compaq. Focus change from a faith-based business to one strictly monetary will be the downfall of this once great facility. For instance, Radiology management over the last several years has lost its once stellar reputation. This once infamous team-oriented department's management has become a good old boys club with not so good boys running it. Uninterested in anyone's input and running anyone out of town on a rail if you question the nonsense occurring. Listen to your worker bees. They have great ideas and until they can't take it anymore, a hope that the good old days haven't passed for good. There's a difference between watching expenses and doing stupid things with the money you do have. All good things must come to an end. With layoffs and staff cuts occurring more frequently, moral will soon tank as staff that's left towing the line will continue to be overworked.

I have been working at St. Dominic's full-time

    Pros

Better scheduling in terms of family. Friendly staff. Nice and supportive manager

    Cons

Patient to nurse ratio not best. Medical floors are not staffed appropriately in relation to workload and patient acuity.

    Advice to Management

Listen to staff suggestions. Placed the needs of staff at higher priority as they are the ones who make patient care the best it can be. The lack of listening to staff needs leads to nurse burnout and lack of retention.
