I worked at St. Francis Xavier University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Close knit community, people are kind and friendly. The students are great to work with and there is generally good relationships between the faculty and administration.

    Cons

Benefits aren't great and the HR support is lacking. Because it's a small town and environment there can be a lot of nepotism and individuals assigned to positions that they don't necessarily have the qualifications for.

    Pros

The best part of this position is that it gave me experience as a customer service representative while attending university. The schedule is pretty flexible and management is very supportive of newer employees.

    Cons

Because you are the face of the technology support group, people tend to think that you should be able to solve all of their tech problems, when in reality there is little training. The pay is also only minimum wage

    Advice to Management

Have an IT professional in the contact centre during regular working hours in order to support the centre's representatives. There's not much else I can say, I really enjoyed my time spent here.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at St. Francis Xavier University as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people you make and the skills you develop are amazing

    Cons

As new hires get added on you can find yourself very easily replaced or forgotten amongst the sea of students.

    Advice to Management

Try to put in a program that facilitates the constant leaving of student employees, any positive changes are often completely forgotten by the time a new person takes on the role. Makes it really hard ot move forward.
