I worked at St Johns County School District full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

St.Johns County School District is the highest rated, highest performing district in the state of Florida. Parents are engaged in their student's education and resources such as desktop computers or projectors are available and appropriately maintained. Colleagues are helpful and professional.

    Cons

Compensation does not reflect required time commitment to perform at a satisfactory level. I was refused compensation for my Master's degree in Educational Technology, although I was instructing ICT Essentials - Information, Communication and Technology in a 55 seat computer lab with over 275 students on my roster.

    Advice to Management

Students in middle grades do not have the self-control for a course with the freedom of internet access in a laboratory environment with 54 classmates. The acceptable use policy is not enforced and the students are aware that consequences for inappropriate behavior will be minimal. Enforce the policy, remove students who are unable to function in a self-governing manner, make history and key stroke reporting readily available so that parents are aware of what their students are viewing.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at St Johns County School District full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits are good...the money is good for this county. It is not for everyone-the kids can be horrible!

    Cons

Kids lie, a lot ! Admin. takes their word over yours...and a complaining parent scares them the most - they let you go before they get in trouble!!!

    Advice to Management

Don't be so quick to judge a book by its cover....or age! Stand behind your employees.

    Pros

The school district is the largest employer in the city. Compensation is somewhat in line with national/state averages. Benefits are good. Free health clinics are available to employees and their families.

    Cons

Those looking for upward mobility will not find it here. Very low turnover combined with a shrinking annual budget make finding openings difficult.
