I have been working at St. Joseph’s Healthcare System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The organization is very committed to its employees satisfaction and provides an excellent environment to perform in - with engaging communication and leadership interactions. The is one of the best health systems in New Jersey.

    Cons

Like many charity care organizations - the health system is challenged only by its ability to care for everyone in need of care. Very impressive how they live their mission and values.

    Advice to Management

Very forward thinking and interactive management style - keep up the current culture and you will continue to be a world-class organization.

I worked at St. Joseph’s Healthcare System full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

-Great people to work with who become friends.
-Friendly staff overall in the different campuses.
-Great amount of experience learned working in any unit that you get hired for or floated too.
-Can establish good rapport with interdisciplinary team members.

    Cons

-workload can be very heavy at times, especially since its expansion
-staffing office needs to get better training, when call outs or shortages are present, their simple reply is you guys call your people. So along with having to do your work, now the staff nurse or charge nurse has to spend some time going through the list of staff nurses to call and find someone who may/may not be available, as if enough work isn't done on the unit (taking time out of patient care to make calls ,when the staffing office can make calls instead)
-When concerns are brought up to managers from a group of staff reagrding behaviors at work such as insubordination from certain staff or unavailability of staff who may be 'hiding away at times', sometimes managers don't take it seriously. seems consistent throughout certain units when discussed amongst nurses from different units. Appears that the concerns aren't worthy enough from our standpoint but if the opposite staff has one complaint on nurses, than nurses are immediately having their attention called. Makes for an unfavorable morale amongst staff.

    Advice to Management

Provide different and ongoing training to managers throughout the year, especially on impartialness, consistency amongst listening to all staff and addressing all concerns instead of brushing them off.

    Pros

CCL Staff is a skilled, supportive and overall friendly group of professionals

    Cons

New and moderately CVT's hired at lower than competitive rates, and there is some issues with Call coverage with their newly expanded Neuro Call.

    Advice to Management

Incorporate the staff better in CCL decision making processes, and increase the pay scales to attract experienced talent

    Pros

Great hands on experience for pre med students

    Cons

Chaotic, at times the floors can be boring. ED is great

    Advice to Management

As with any hospital the typical things could be improved, those being staffing and management of that staff. Of course there are problems from upwards of the chain that always prevent things from being perfect.
