I have been working at St. Jude Medical full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent benefits. Other than that none. They expect work to consume your life. No camaraderie and people do not care about others. Sales reps are ruthless and will screw your over to get ahead. Sales reps lie and cheat just to makes sales

    Cons

No ethics. Use clinical studies to promote sales which is illegal. Good ol boy network that if you aren’t a part of then your career will never progress. Don’t care about professional development or human capital management. Upper management is afraid of challenging sales team and sales team runs the company.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees with respect and develop them. Promote those that deserve it and create a culture someone can be proud of. Need to drain the swamp there and get rid of a lot of upper management that is worthless

I worked at St. Jude Medical full-time

    Pros

As I stare at the screen, I am trying to come up with some. Products are decent

    Cons

Extremely poor management, unethical in how they deal with product failures. Take way too long to get information to physicians about problems with a product. Do not care about the people in the field. Very top heavy. Upper management (everything above field reps) is more interested in their income than they are the workload on their reps, the success of the organization and the proper treatment of patients. How they handle the latest CRM battery issues is nothing short of disgusting. I left because of it.

    Advice to Management

Get your head out of the sand and you mind off your wallet. The well being of patients depends on it. Advice to job seekers...look to Medtronic. St Jude is not where you want to be

    Pros

    Amazing products that help patients.

Rating the CEO as positive because he's not legacy SJM. I am hopeful he will make the right changes to turn this company into a place people actually want to work.

    Cons

Zero work life balance. Prepare to work at least 75 hours a week, more if you are competent.

If you are looking to join this company, wait until the Abbott integration is completed. SJM culture is toxic and punitive. Abbott will make good changes, it will just take time.

If you are interviewing, do NOT work for a legacy SJM manager. Their main concern is to protect each other throughout the integration and will not support you unless you fit into their agenda. Ask if they were legacy SJM and if yes, how long they worked there. If they are a lifer, avoid like the plague. If you are interviewing with an Abbott manager, you are in a better position.

    Advice to Management

Get RID of legacy SJM management, especially in the Pleasanton office. They are driving an excellent company (legacy Thoratec) into the ground. Look closely at legacy SJM managers you put in charge there.

None. You even have to use your vacation during shut down this is not fair. I hate that they will not address the real issues.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

    Pros

None - this is a company where hard work is not appreciated. Your qualifications and background are not important. You will end up reporting to an incompetent manager who's been doing the same job for so long and lacks training and leadership skills.

    Cons

horrific workloads; unappreciative & incompetent management. 100% nepotism, unprofessional and childish behavior encouraged and tolerated by careless management. Your skills, work ethics and professionalism are NOT appreciated at this organization.

    Advice to Management

all mid level management need to be changed. These people are not qualified to lead and employ unethical and immoral methods. The reason this company has so many issues is because most management are unqualified and hold positions they won't dream to have at other companies.

    - IT dept is behind in technology. Lot of manual processes
    - Very little room for growth and poor pay for long term employees
    - My immediate supervisor rarely spoke to me, would see him maybe once a month or speak to him once a week on IM.

    Pros

I had a wonderful team of coworkers.

    Cons

No training or Management support. Worked 60 hour weeks being a salary employee. HR is terrible. Managers do not give employees raises to better their raise. They do not promote women.

    Advice to Management

Support and back up your team members. Be positive and supportive. Provide training and procedures. Listen to your team and accept feedback. Motivate your team by encouraging instead of bullying.
